Call for AAI / Chiari Links and info Since we've had quite a few yorkies here lately with AAI, possible chiari, and other neck issues - I'd like to put something in the Library for permanent info. If you have good links/info - please put them here and I'll eventually create a permanent thread for The Library. If anyone has a good "intro" for AAI etc, feel free to paste it into their post. Here are a few chiari links: The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine CANINE SYRINGOMYELIA - Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia Arnold-Chiari Malformation, Syringomyelia |

Ann, Since we just the heart sinking news of Roriee's diagnosis, I found this link but, posted it in Roriee's other thread. Thought it should be here Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis |
Ann and Mary- Thanks for posting the thread on GME. I was interested to read it since it sounds like that's what roriee's diagnosis is. If you wouldn't mind could one of you explain what the plan will be for her? Is she going to have to be put to sleep? Can surgery be done? I don't want to get off topic but have been thinking about her and praying for her all day and would like to know what the next steps are! Thanks for any info you can provide! |

Here is alot of info for GME from someone who has a dog with it and treating for it. Ann maybe you can put on title here AAI/CHIARI/GME and encephalitis is tied to all neurological diseases so it is not uncommon for them to have more than one diagnosis with these diseases- I posted this in the other thread but thought it would be best here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...king-help.html |

I have a suggestion and just a suggestion. As a member to the National and a Regional Club, from time to time we call in vet/specialists to speak to the membership on issues that are plaguing our breed. I know that's an impossibility, but maybe someone that is dealing with these issues at the moment can obtain information from the Specialist they are working with. Maybe the rescue/foster that is working with Roriee can give us some insight. Sometimes first hand information from those that are going through experience can provide us with what to be on the lookout for. |
This is a fantastic idea! That would be such a great way to insure that misinformation about medical issues in our breed don't cause owners to make incorrect decisions by relying just on lay opinion. Quote:

I've always found first hand knowledge/experience is the best source of information. |
