Question for admin
 
Why do certain member's posts contain underlined green words? I don't think it's anything the poster is doing, but I'm not sure. Here's an example on post one of this thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...made-food.html. The words "food" "dinner", and "breakfast" are green and underlined as in link, but when you click on them, it just take you to the index page. I've seen this sort of thing on other websites and the words will take you to some site that explains more about the word or something. This seems to happen only occasionally here, but I notice it happens to some members more than others. Do you know what causes it? Does it have anything to do with donating status?

We're not quite sure about the single green lines. We do see it once in a while, but usually posts from newer members only, that perhaps link wrong or somehow drag a YT link to a specific word. There are at times a double underlined green word, and those are advertising links.

Test

The code in the posts just shows the URL tag and the COLOR=green tag around the words... So somehow the members with green links are doing this...

Hmmm, down in the Miscellaneous options there is something about links, let me take it off and see if it stops doing this for me too.

Yup, it worked. It the second Fyi :) At least that what I think it is, I'm no expert :)

Automatically embed media (requires automatic parsing of links in text to be on).
Automatically retrieve titles from external links

That's something different, it just stops the letters URL going in from of the address so it shows up like this:

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yorkie-health-diet/181694-maxi-not-eating-sould-i-try-homemade-food.html

instead of like this:
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...made-food.html

It's kind of like an advertising/search engine thing that "somehow" link to our sign in on this site. It can also happen on other sites you may go to. Anyway...all you have to do to remove it is right click on the green underlined word and a pop up options list will appear. It will give you the option to turn it off so that it no longer shows in your posts.

That make sense, but it doesn't work when I right click it. Did you open this link where the words in green appear? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...made-food.html

When you right click does it give you an option to make them disappear?

This was happening to me in occasional posts too. I saw a post telling how to make it go away and followed the instructions. It was too long ago for me to remember what I did. But there should be instructions somewhere in this forum to tell you what to do. It comes from your own preferred search engine; mine is google. If you change which search engine is your preferred one, it will probably go away too. But if you don't want to change, keep searching through this forum and I know the instructions to end the "green underlined words" are in there somewhere.

I just did a quick search and here are the instructions that Mikey1985 posted back in 2007: "You can disable them. Move your cursor to one of the underlined words, and let the box pop up. Just click on the question mark in the corner, then follow to the bottom of the page and click disable. The green lines are gone here!!! "

Hope it still works for you. This sounded familiar enough, I think it is what I used.

Thanks for all the research, when I put my cursor over the underlined words, no box comes up, I have a couple of programs that disable pop-ups and that's may be the reason. I guess my question is more about why some peoples posts even have the green lines, it doesn't happen very often, but it seems like they are always a non-donating memeber, and I wondered if this was the reason, or if they were actually choosing that these links come up.

No, I don't think anyone chooses for them to come up. It might happen more on non-donating members as they usually have not yet disabled the green links. So, when you put your cursor across the green word, nothing shows up on your screen? That would not be so annoying then. But if you still would like to get rid of the green words, I would turn your pop-up blocker off and then find a green word to click on and disable. Then you can turn your pop-up blocker back on again.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, but I have several different programs that disable them, and I would have to disable all of the programs, they weren't really bothering me, all it is is a green underlined word. I was just curious as to why some people posts had them, I really rarely see them.
