I was thinking if the chains get too big, we could start splitting the boxes into more specific stuff - boy/girl clothes, small/large toys, something like that.

What you think a good chain length is? If we're thinking business shipping, 5-9 business days, + 10 day grace period to send the box along, that's 2-3 weeks per person. Since the GE's are 4 months apart, I think that would indicate 10-12 people per chain. Assuming we start with fifty people, maybe we have five boxes of each going around a ring. Once the first person gets the original box back, they send it to a different chain.

I think this would work. I like math. :) I am happy to be the "chain" coordinator.

A donating member AND 1000 posts?! I've been here since August and don't even have 500 posts yet. I've been here for almost 10 months and that would count me out, it would count a lot of people out.

I can't wait to qualify for all the cool and fun stuff everyone does around here. I only wish I joined earlier :) I think this sounds like a great idea. I like the carrier thing.

I thought the same thing!! That way everyone gets to choose from the same number...if you want to add ONE more thing...then that's your choice!!

I think seperating it between boys and girls is a great idea...for the clothes boxes...

But 1000 posts is a bit much!! (100 posts seems fair)

And Donating 10.00 seems like a nice number!

I think you would be a GREAT coodinator!!! If I can help..I'd love to!!! Keep me in mind!!

Also I was thinking that when the box gets to the last person in the chain....why not have them send it to the next CHAIN...instead of the same person that started it...that way they only have to ship out that box once! :o) And that would also depend on how many chains people sign up for!! Will take some definate planning...and tracking

I don't understand the donating part, who does the donation go to, Yorkietalk?

Oh well I could be out because I'm not a donating member but I could do that. But I don't have 1000 posts.

Well I just notice that I have 917, so by the time we figure this out I could have 1000 I hope.

Yes, since we would be running it in this forum.

I don't know if Admin would be willing to do this, but maybe we could get the concept of "Junior Donating Member" going with a fee less than $25. That donation would get you access to this GUGE (Gently Used Gift Exchange), but not to the full one. Any donating member would have access to both, assuming they met the requirements of time on the boards and number of posts.

Yes it goes to YT....that way we can also be sure that everyone that participates have a vested interest in YT!!

But I really think 1000 posts is a bit unfair....you only need 100 to participate in the YT exchange...

I think if the donation requirement is lower, maybe we make the other standards a little stricter, but not much stricter. So maybe:

$15 donation
200 posts
Must be a member of YT for at least 3 months before joining.

I like those requirements....those seem very fair!! Plus it helps that I qualify for them all!! teehee

I think those requirements seem very fair. It means the members has had to be a part of the community, been around for a little while and has also contributed to YT but isn't able to come up with the full $25
