Concerned about blogs & newbies
 
Is there anyway you can keep a new member from starting a blog before they have posted a thread??? I am just concerned because I have seen several blog posts from new members who have not started or posted in any threads in the forum.

They seem to think this is how they can get a question answered and these blogs are getting overlooked

What can I help you with? Have you posted your own thread? Do you know how to do that?

Looks like you only have posts - not blog entries. Which my concern is new people coming and somehow posting a blog entry instead of a new thread.

Do you need help knowing how to post in your blog? Let me know what I can help you with.

I've been here awhile, and I don't even know how to do a blog, so if that's the only place their writing I'd never be able to respond.

I haven't really looked so we may already have this, but I think it would a good idea to have a YT how to sticky that tells new members how to post a new thread, how to post in a thread, a description of each forum, etc.

You might want to check out my new thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...orkietalk.html, 4doggiemama visits every new member, and leaves them a welcome with information on using Yorkietalk. I'm writing a sticky that she could also link to them. Please look at the thread, and see if other things should be addressed. 4d often finds members who introduce themselves and ask questions on their profile pages, and blogs, we try to inform them how to use Yorkietalk, but I thought having a sticky we could link, might be easier.

Thank you for your feedback. All new members get a PM which welcomes them to the forum and gives information on how to post a reply or post a new thread. :)

Can something be added to that PM that tells them if they post in their Blog - members may not see it & respond?? They need to be encourage to post in the general forum..

Although, I am a believer that we need a New Members forum -- more & more people are used to visiting forums that have that option. Just in the last few days I have seen several new people post in the General Forum - & wonder if they are in the right place - they are confused too, thinking there should be a place for New Members

About the blogs, even if newbies get welcomes via PM, how do we know they know to pick up PMs because I know some people don't...

I was just looking through the blogs and there are still questions being asked on them and new members saying hi.

Thank you for your feedback, we have edited the welcome message for new members and have explained the best way to participate in the YT community. :)

I included the information on blogs in the How to Use YorkieTalk Sticky http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...orkietalk.html, and admin says that they will send this to new members. 4doggiemama greets all new members and will also send them this link, so if they don't read their PM's maybe they will read that. There is only so much you can do, and if a new member chooses not to read anything, and still posts questions on blogs, those that read them, can perhaps, inform them that they should post their questions on the forum.

Nancy1999 has written a very good guide for new members of YorkieTalk, and 4doggiemama does a great job greeting new members here as well. We PM and email all new members with new member information and how to use YorkieTalk now. How they choose to use YorkieTalk is up to them, if you do see someone only post on their blog and not get any response, you may PM them or reply to their blog entry and let them know that they can post in our forums for a better response. Thank you!
