YT Server Info This message is primarily meant for the admin, I am a pretty new member since I just got my yorkie 2 weeks ago but I figured I would inquire. I know the server is hosted in a datacenter which I assume has 2 lines running into it in case one is cut, I know it can be tough to have a datacenter on 2 power grids to keep it up in case one goes down but I was wondering if it had that? Also, do you have any sort of SLA with the datacenter? I tried to find the server specs and saw that you mentioned that you were leasing the server, had you ever thought of purchasing a server, in the long run it can be more affordable, I was wondering what the current specs of the server are and if you are sharing it with any other sites? Also, I have read a little about hardware failures, most components in a computer have a very long MTBF except the hard drives, are you running and sort of RAID backups in your server? does the datacenter do any backups? A loss of data would really suck and I was just wondering. Last, I am a member of another vbulliten site nasioc.com and there are 160k active members with 36k active and over 1 million threads and 20 million posts if you keep having trouble I could connect with you with the site admin of nasioc to try and work out some of the issues. Just trying to help!!! Bryan |
 great post, I been having issues recently:( |
The YorkieTalk server is a dual Intel Xeon server. This server is almost exclusively utilized by YorkieTalk. We've discussed buying versus leasing with our server admin and we felt it was best for us to lease at this time. We do have data backup in place. The server hardware (1 CPU and the motherboard) simply failed in this instance. |
