Please check titers, Ellie's distemper is low. Ellie was vaccinated last year and we did titers this year. I want to vaccinate no more than every three years. Her parvo titer is ridiculously good but distemper is low. The vet believes she needs it again this year. I know titers aren't 100% accurate but they are atleast a marker so please get them checked if you don't vaccinate. |
I am ignorant....what are titers? |
:) Don't be hard on yourself. I didn't know til not too long ago. Titer antibody testing (blood test) show if an animal has sufficient antibodies to protect against a certain disease so you aren't shoving vaccines in the animal's body year after year. |
Wonderful!!! Thank you so much for telling me this. I will make sure the vet does this when it is "time" for boosters. Ever since having the scare when she had the rabies shot I have been weary of vaccinations. |

You should however have the stools checked for parisites once a year, and if they frequent dog parks, then have them tested every six months. I have mine tested every six months just to be on the safe side, especially since we don't have cold enough winters to kill off fleas and ticks. |
all of our dogs have their shots every 3 years, our dogs don't go to a dog park and really the only other dogs they see are my daughters dogs, in total we have 10 dogs all together, they all get to together at least once a week, so I guess you would say we have our own dog park. |
