Fuzzy's Fractured Elbow Hi everyone - this is my first post... Fuzzy is a 4 month old female - cutest thing in the world... :) Anyway, last Monday she tripped over her feet while running and came up screaming with her left front paw raised. I rushed her to the emergency room and after a x-rays and a six-hour wait, we left thinking it was a sprain and with Fuzzy on crate restriction for two weeks. Then the next morning, I was at Fuzzy's regular vet and the ER called to say that their radiologist was concerned about her elbow. Her vet did a new set of x-rays and sent her home again to await the results and continue the crate restriction. Then, after finally getting her x-ray results on Thursday, the vet told me to come in on Friday to discuss. She has a fracture in her elbow and he said he wanted to operate on Monday (the soonest he could see her). Then today (Monday), he put her under for new x-rays prior to operating and it turned out it was more complicated (displaced and rotated slightly) than he expected and he wants to send her a specialist instead. So now she's going tomorrow to meet with a specialist. It's been a week and she's already much more mobile and doesn't seem to be in much pain at all. So I'm worried that it's already started to heal as it is and that they've already taken too much time to do a good job tomorrow. Anyway, we'll find out tomorrow... Please wish her well... |
Sending get well wishes. |
Well - the specialist says that too much time by for her to be comfortable with the operation and we're best off letting it continue to heal as it is. Unfortunately this means that artheritis it pretty much a sure thing for Fuzzy later in life, but even if they had operated in time, it would have been a risky procedure. So now she's home and back on crate restriction for a couple more weeks... |
Hugs to Fuzzy & your family! I like to believe that everything happens for a reason... so maybe it was meant to be that she wasn't operated on immediately (or at all). I wish her all the best! P.S. Welcome to YorkieTalk!!! |
Aaaah. I hope she's doing better now. How is she doing? Might we see pictures per chance? |
I hope Fuzzy gets well quickly. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I love her name by the way, it's adorable. It sounds like you did everything right. I'm sorry they didn't catch it sooner. |
Get well soon little baby:aimeeyork |
3 Attachment(s) Thanks guys... Fuzzy's at 100% - running, jumping, playing, etc... The specialist said she's fully healed and doing well... We switched vets and the new vet seems very good. Thanks again... |
poor baby hope for a speedy recovery :) |
My Alyssa just visited her vet on Wednesday since she started walking on 3 legs and lifting her rear left leg. The vet said she had popped out her knee. She popped it back in and Alyssa let out a loud yelp. She put her on pain medicine for l0 days. She said if it was not better then we would do x-rays. Surgery would then we the next step. I am hoping that with her being restricted from jumping (she jumps off the couch, bed, table...she is a climber and loves to jump off) that her leg will heal. Alyssa is 5. The vet said it is unusual for a yorkie to just start having problem at this poiint in her life. Usually bad knees are present from birth. The vet had made a note on her record at our last visit that her knees appeared to be in good shape. So we are keeping our fingers crossed and saying prayers that this was just something that happened and not going to be a common occurrance. |
hope ypur felling better soon fuzzy sending hugs your way;) |
Aww, poor little Fuzzy. Sending hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery. Hopefully, if arthritus is going to set in, it'll wait for long, long time. In the meantime, welcome to YT:) . Pictures of Fuzzy are a must:D . I just realized, you're not too far from us. Finally, someone in our neck of the woods;) . |
*kisses* to fuzzy for a speedy recovery! |

I'm so glad she's doing better. Even if she has a little arthritis later in life, I'm sure that you'll be there to warm her old joints. But omg - what a cutie. THOSE LITTLE EYEBROWS!!! :D |
