Nuclear Scan/Scintigraphy Can anyone who has had this procedure done tell me if it gave you any more definitive information about LS/MVD? I do realize that MVD can only really be diagnosed from a biopsy... so I guess I am really asking is for those that had a scan and it said NO LS, did you assume MVD and change diet/supplements according? or did you proceed w/ a biopsy? For those that found a shunt, did you proceed w/ surgery? Did you have it done at a school or a private practice? Cost? Is the scan harmful to the pups - I see the words nuclear and radiation and it definitely makes me uncomfortable. thanks for any information!!!! |
Sorry I can't help just bumping this for you. I know ther are many on here who could help you. Maybe they will come on line later. Good luck. |
I decided against the scan since Cali's Bile Acids indicated more likely MVD. SHe had the liver biopsy instead and has very mild MVD. SHe had the biopsy during her spay. |
bumping my own post to keep it near the top for more responses. thanks everyone! |
bump again |
Well in Lily's case, the Scintigraphy showed no liver shunt even though she had a very high post on her BAT. This combined with a multitude of other heath problems led to Dr. Tobias recommending a biopsy for her. She also has hydrocephalus which is usually treated with steroids but before we did that we needed to know if her liver was okay and if not, exactly what kind of liver disease we were dealing with. Turned out she had MVD so we couldn't use the steroids. I had it done at UT. I would not have done the biopsy if her post levels were not so high and her other health conditions were not a factor. |
Forgot to add that I also had the biopsy done because she was having symptoms that could have been due to liver disease or the hydrocephalus so we needed to either rule out liver disease or know the extent of it to help determine which condition was causing her neurological symptoms. |
