New yorkie owner with a question Hi, this is my 1st post. We have a 14 week old male yorkie. He has a ton of energy, eats, drinks, plays, pee's, and poops. About once or twice an hour he does this gag (not sure if it's vomiting or coughin). Every once in a while i notice that he has vomiting up his food. But his energy is still good and he's running and eating/sleeping. no change in bowel habits. He was also diagnosised with Giardias and we are going to begin treatment today. Any thoughts on what this could be? Could this be due to his giardia? Thanks. John |
It could. Puppies also eat alot of stuff they shouldnt & it can get caught in their throats. I would bring it to your vets attention. |
Welcome to yorkietalk. This is a wonderful forum, John, I wish I had an answer to your question. I'm bumping this up, hoping someone can address your concern. |
Did your vet mention to you that giardia can be transmitted to people? Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly, especially right after you play with him or clean up his poop. |
did you ask? Ask the vet if he thinks it's kennel cough-skippy had it as well as giardia when we got him, an antibiotic took it away. |
hi and welcome small bites. see if he is eating to fast and is his food small bites? I found tede had the same thing. if i lift him right after he eats he kind of does that almost puck thing.hope that helps a little |
I don't have a good answer for your dilemma, but I did want to welcome you to YT. Please let us know what you discover, so we can all learn...... |
Welcome to YT, John. I second what, For My Coby said. Please post what your Vet says so we can learn. I hope your fur baby gets well soon. Pepper:animal-pa |
Thanks everyone for all your advise. Since begining and now finishing the treatment for his Giardia, I noticed that he is gagging much much less. Maybe like once a day; sometimes not even at all. So maybe the Giardia was giving him an upset stomach. Not sure, but he seems fine. John |
Glad your baby is doing better. These little guys are living, breathing, vacuum cleaners! I agree that some of the gagging could be from picking up stuff in his mouth. I have to watch Scooter like a hawk! A couple of days ago, he was outside and trying to get a huge earwig in his mouth! Gross!!! |
Any suggestions about house breaking my yorkie? we use the piddle pads and he seems to pee on them all the time, which is great. But the funny thing is that he will only poop on them when we are home with him; when he is on his own he will poop near the piddle pad, but hardely ever on it. What gives? -John |
