Question for those that dog was sick and recovered She is still on IV at the vet. The vet fell in love with her I think and he is taking care of her as if it was is kid... Anyway, she is in very good hand. She spent the weekend with him at home! Her pancreas and gall bladder was swollen and the gall bladder was blocked. He opened her up. Her small intestine is very red and swollen. She trying to recuperate but the road is long... I'm thinking of bringing her home tonight with the IV to give her lots of love.... I think she's starting to be lonely! Have you had a really sick Yorkie that survived? How long did it take to recover? Please give me some feedback! |
My Cali was sick so much when she was young. SHe had the intestinal surgey, liver biopsy and had many overnight trips to the er vet for hypoglycemia. Finally at 9 months she seemed to get better. SHe still is a very quiet, laid back dog and has allergies but nothing like in the beginning. It sounds like you have an excellent vet and that you are very committed to getting your baby well. I will keep her in my prayers. I know how streessful and heartbreaking it is wheh they are so sick. |

About 16 years ago, my first Yorkie, Grizwald had severe hypoglycemia. He got ahold of some some food that my parrot threw out of his cage. It obstructed his bowels and he refused to eat. No one told me about karo or nutrical back then. The vet kept him for a few days for observation. His little heart stopped and the vet did cpr to revive him. So surgery wasn't an option. He had so many tubes in him it scared me to death. Luckily the seed finally passed. He came home after a week. Recovered slowly and required me to make sure I sat with him and fed him several times a day. The hypoglycemia stayed with Grizwald for his life. He did live a full happy life though. Things improve it seems once they get about six months or three pounds. Just got to watch them if they miss a meal or look shaky, tired. |
When I got my yorkie, he had a heart murmur, a severe case of coccidia, hypoglycemia, upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis, and liver problems (that we didn't know at the time). To this day, he has had 3 surgeries. The only problems that he has now are his liver problems (which cause seizures, head pressing, lethary, etc) and bladder stone issues. Both of which are under control now due to supplements and special foods and a special daily regimen for him. The vets wanted to put him down when he was 4 months old...He is now 3 1/2 yrs old and healthier than I've ever seen him :) |
Thanks that is reassuring. The vet took a good care of her. But yesterday she came home with me with the IV. She was so happy to see the family. SHe is not strong and she lost a lot of weight. She doesn't want to eat yet... but she sleeps a lot with me ;) I slept through the night with her and this morning she was walking a lot ;) It reassured me. She even barked when she heard a sound! I think it will be a long recovery but with the love at home and at the Vet clinic, I am sure she will make it ;) She did blood tests yesterday and there was nothing alarming but a few symptoms related to her pancreatitis! I pray for her to stay with us... She is 4 months and I love her to death! |
Pivo has had complete renal failure twice (to the point that the vet called us in the middle of the night and told us to come say goodbye, that he would not make it through the morning) and had to have all his teeth removed. It took him longer to recover from the teeth, but he always was back quickly and it did not permanently affect him any of the times he was sick. |
I can not tell you how many "death and dying Yorkies" have totally recovered..had a few myself. One of mine was on a trach tube to breathe, couldn't stand, on her side, didn't move for 3 days, Mini is now 8 yrs..and we still don't know how she got that respirtory infection so bad she nearly konked out..none of the others got sick... The Prez of our Yorkie club has a 3 1/2 pound girl named Annie who had renal failure, stomach and heart problems to the point the vet said she would not live 24 hrs..well, Annie is her old self again, showing the vet who is in charge of her "comin's and goin's... Yorkies are the hardiest of the toy breeds..Best wishes to your little Yorkie... |
There is no doubt in my mind that Yorkies are the toughest little buggers on earth, just wish that our vet had the answers to Rustys problem and was able to save hime the trip to the Rainbowbridge. However once again he and his big brother Rags are once again hanging out and having a ball. |
