Bad Knees - Help This is my first post, but I wondered if anyone has had trouble with their yorkies and dislocation of their knees. We went for a normal check up on Tuesday, and the vet said that my Ceasar was having a common problem in yorkies where his knees dislocate, but pop back in place. He has a stage 3 in the right and 4 in the left with a stage 5 being the worst. He suggested a $2000.00 surgery to correct this problem. My issue is that I see no pain in my dog, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. He jumps, runs when the kids get off the bus, and is very playful. Should I get a second opinion. My theory is to steer clear of surgery. I just don't know if I should trust this vet or I if I should get a second opinion. Anyone that has this issue please help or any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am scared! He is only 3 on November 11th! |
Peanut's knees also pop and my vet said that it is very mild. He has no pain and can jump and run like crazy. I asked if I should limit his activity and she said no he is just fine. I do give him glucosamine which is good for joints. |
First of all there are no stage 5. There is 1 to 4, 4 being the very worst. That's when the knee cap doesn't go back in the socket at all. My Zada had stage 3 in both knees and had them both operated on at the same time. If your boy has a stage 4, then he would be having a lot of difficutly getting around and most likely be walking with a leg held up or not bending at all. I would get a second opinion, but keep in mind, if he does have a stage 4, then he should be having surgery before it's too late. |
Rebel had surgery on his left back knee about 3 months ago. (He also had torn tendons from trying to jump off the bed:( ) He also has it in the back right leg, but his vet recommends I wait to have the surgery done because he shows no symptoms of pain. I'm to watch him, and if he develops symptoms, then take him in for the other surgery. I think I'd get another opinion. |
