mymartini Hello Everyone, I am new to your sight and I am excited to join your Yorkie talk. I have my first Yorkie and her name is Martini. She is seven months old and having a terrible bout with fleas even with being on Frontline for the past three months. I just noticed what I believe to be a flea bite that is pussy looking and I was wondering if any of you could offer advice on what or how to clean. I am really at a loss I have tried so many different natural remedies and nothing seems to work and after finding this I must admit I am ready to resort to a flea collar as I have used them in the past on my other dogs and they are now 13 and 14 years of age. However for the past seven years I have been raising my family in an organic environment and hoped to do the same for Martini but really can't find anything that works. I believe she is picking them up from outside so I have been wanting to make her a small confined area to use for her yard however our other pets roam the full yard and she loves being with with everyone so I haven't had the heart to confine her. Please be very careful about using a flea collar. Certain brands can harm very badly. If Frontlline isn't working then you could try anoher brand. Have you tried Program yet. It is a chitin inhibitor. Fleas have a protective shield of chitin. If that is destroyed they cannot reproduce. Have you talked to your vet about what to do since it has been so long? How about using a product for the floors and furniture? Are your other dogs getting them? If they aren't that is strange. |
:welcome4: You will love YT although I dont have any advice about the fleas, I keep gizzie on heartworm pills that prevent fleas and it works for her i think the name is sentinel. Cant wait to see pics:D |
You can sprinkle seven's dust where she goes outside to kill the fleas, and you can even put it on her. It's non-toxic to animals, and you can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. I put peroxide on bad flea bites to keep them from getting infected, and it seems the one your describing is infected. Welcome to YT. Hope I helped you out. |
mymartini thank you for your warm welcome and responses. i will give them a try, however i am becoming increasingly concerned because the infected bump has gotten larger, the size of a nail head if not two, and it appears to be gorged with yellow gook. my husband feels we need to soak it and draw out the salve any suggestions on how I would do this and what I should use--I know on people you use products like epson salt or peroxide but I do not know what is safe for a dog. please understand I am still learning how to use this site this is my third attempt to respond hopefully I have it right this time--will add pictures of my honey at a later date as I need my children's help in performing this task. 2hearts2: :dogwalk: |

Hi and welcome to YT!!!!!! I, too would have the vet check out the spot you are talking about. It doesn't sound like a flea bite. These pups can be prone to staph infections, particularly if they have allergies. As far as flea protection goes, I would try another product. I also use Sentinel which is a combo heart worm/flea prevention. I also use Mink Sheen shampoo which has essential oils in it which also help to repel fleas. There are other shampoos which also do this; Buddy Wash and Shea Pet are a few more. Good luck!!! |
