Pregnant with fleas Im not sure if this is where this question belongs but i wasnt sure where to put it. My friend has a female yorkie and shes pregnant but they have a flea problem. She's not sure if she can give her a flea bath or not. She's going to call the vet tomorrow but she was just wondering if she could give her a flea bath. Or if there was anything else she could do. Thanks. |

to give you an example how toxic flea shampoos are...A sad but true story My brothers friend has a yorkiepoo found her under the deck outside after giving birth to 4 lively little pups, she was flea ridden and muddy (in the mid of a heat wave in the summer). He took her in gave her a flea bath with hartz 3-1 shampoo..thinking it was the right thing to do, then took the pups in and placed them all in a box....within hours the pups died...the teats had flea shampoo residue and the pups injested it. |
I agree. Dawn dishwashing detergent will kill the fleas. Dilute it 50% Dawn, 50% water and apply it to a dry dog. Let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing it off. It is drying to she'll want to use a good conditioner afterwards. 20 Mule Team Borax sprinkled in the carpet also kills fleas. Work it in with a broom. Depending when she is due, her vet may let her apply a topical flea preventative like Advantage or Frontline. The fleas have been awful this year, the worst I've ever seen, because of the drought. |
I would defintely talk with my vet before putting anything on her while she's pregnant. |
Fossil Shell Flour is non-toxic and safe, it MUST be food grade...you can put it on the pets skin, (not rubbed in the skin) , on carpet and in the pets bed...you can google it and read it yourself...Freshwater Organics and Perma-Guard sells it...I've heard dog shampoo with Neem oil kills fleas and is safe but it must not have added Pyrethrins in it to be completely safe, some pet stores sell some of these shampoos... |
