My Samson can't potty My Samson can't potty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday ... my 10 month old 2.9 lbs Yorkie was nuertered.... his testicles never dropped so they had to go in and find them.... he has two abdominal incisions.... when he came home Monday he pooped and peed...... and whinned ... but he seemed okay..... Tues..... he pooped but would not or could not pee..... he has been eating some and drinking..... I have stayed right by his side and watched his every move.... finally last night he would stand over his paper and rock back and forth ..... and you could tell he was trying to pee.... his little penis would move up and down like he was trying real hard..... and he would make small little yelping sounds.... I took him outside back and front ( peeing in the front yard is really really cool ) and he couldn't even go there.... finally about 1:00 am I took him to the 24 hour emergency vet and they catherized him which relieved him and gave me a different pain med.... ( metacam ) My vet gave him torbutrol 1mg.... and told me to give him a dose at 8PM and then another dose in the morning.... so last night I gave him another dose at 8 Pm ( that was during the time he was trying to potty and couldn't.... I did not give him the metacam since he had taken the torbutrol ...last night... Wed morning ( today ) I gave him the metacam and he peed a good amount once this morning about 7:30 but has not peed again it is 1:00 PM now... I called the original vet and ask what I should do and he said don't worry he should be fine ..... Has anyone had any experience with this.... he walks around and seems okay he just won't potty ...... what can you do to make them potty .... I just want to do the right thing. |
Is he drinking normally? If he can't urinate, it's very important that you take him back to the vet. This happened to Miko a couple of yrs ago, and I had to take him to the emergency vet. My yorkie seemed okay too, at first, and then it got to the point where he wouldn't stop trying to pee and nothing would come out. We immediately took him to the vet and they put a catheter in...It turned out that he had stones/crystals blocking the pee from coming out. His bladder was getting very full. If they wouldn't have put a catheter in him, his urinary bladder could have burst. This could have killed him. Anyway, they analyzed the stones/crystals and found out that they were ammonium urate stones/crystals which are formed many times by dogs who have compromised livers. It's very important that they check your dog for crystals and stones...They won't necessarily show up on an x-ray...Ammonium urate stones only show on an ultrasound. Just a few weeks before this happened, he had been diagnosed with liver problems. I took him to get a bile acid test because he had a couple of issues with UTIs and I wasn't satisfied with what the vets were telling me. And the weekend before the test, he had a seizure out of the blue. He was only 9 months old at the time all this happened... |
UPDATE Samson is doing good.... he finally started going to potty.... he was just being a wus.... and just sore.... he is going strong now.... Thanks to all. |
