Anyone heard of Myasthenia Gravis? My friend has a shepherd mix that is very sick. The vet thinks he has Myasthenia Gravis. They are waiting for the blood tests to come back. But are not treating him. He has an enlarged esophagus. Myasthenia Gravis causes muscular weakness. He can hardly keep anything down. She has to give him a bag SubQ fluid everyday. He hardly eats and drools all the time and throws up. Today he had trouble walking and she had to carry him. He has been to the vet 4 times. Does anyone have any experience with this disease? She is very concerned the vet is not doing enough. She has read a lot on line but there isn't much information on exact treatments. He is 6 years old. The vet told her to feed him and give him water standing up and make him stand for 10 minutes, that is pretty hard to do. Thanks for any help you can give. |
I have a human friend who has this. It is very similar to Multiple Sclerosis in that there are good days where you wouldn't know anything is wrong and then flare ups where she is bed ridden. It causes progressive, degenerative muscular weakness until the body doesn't work any longer. It usually begins with extremeties and then turns to the internal muscles (heart, lungs, esophogus, etc.). From my friend, I understand there really is no treatment other than watching your diet, eliminating stress levels and taking good care of yourself. She knows that eventually this disease will take her life, but she has been dealing with it for 6 years now. Hope this helps. |
I never new MS could kill you. This makes me very sad as my daughter has MS and never told me this. Say some prayers for her. |
