peeing while snoozing Hey All: Does anyone have any experience with their little darling wetting while they are resting. I don't think GiGi was in a sound sleep but today 2x's she wet while she taking a snooze. Once on my bed...so I put her in the expen where I set up some weewee pads for her and she did do a good tinkle. Then later she was curled up on my living room chair with me and she wet in the corner she was resting on. I don't think she was sound asleep but kinda dozing. Before that she was playing with Pucci...doing some ruff housing....and she then did a spot in my throw....which I attributed to the playing around of the two of them. But that has also never happened before. She has been fine...about a month or two ago she had a UTI which cleared and there has been no prob. She has not even been wetting in her bed which is where she is now and will have to sleep tonight. So I think that this is just her not getting up to weewee.  If anyone has had this happen I would appreciate their comments. Thanks in advance. Tina |
Yes Loki takes PPA for nighttime incontinence. It's rare in males, common in females. (His drinking problem makes it worse, he loves water!) The medicine is fairly cheap and solves the problem. I'd head straight to the vet - it tooks us months to figure out what his problem was and about 2 days for the drug to work. 4AM baths are no fun. |
Thanks I didn't know what to think....I just knew it was very strange that she would be fine and then out of no where wet my bed. It doesn't happen often. Or I should say it has been happening increasingly this year. Prior years it happened once a year. But it happened 3 times today. I am glad to hear it is common in females. She is 5 1/2 now so I guess as she gets older it shows up more. And she is really so obedient that for her to do that is really noticeable. I was going to get some diapers for her. So she finally Christened my living room chair ( THAT IS A NO NO!!!). Well I put something on it so I hope it doesn't stink it's upholstered. Tina |
No, that is not normal and she needs a trip to the vet:( . I have never, nor ever heard of a healthy dog of any breed just having pee come out while sleeping or resting. She isn't feeling the "need" or urgency, and therefore, there is a definite problem. She is way to young to accept this as a permanent problem. Please let us know what the vet says. I hope all goes well for little GiGi. |
By chance is Gigi taking prednisone? I know mine was doing it alot for a while and then he stopped. I find I let my boy outside a lot more, even if he doesn't want to go out. |

I promise the medicine really works. And it's like $15/month. She did mention that it's VERY common with older females, especially those that have been spayed. We don't have any trouble with him on the medicine. He gets it twice a day and it tastes like meat. He thinks it is a treat. |

It is very strange.....I had put her in the kitchen where her beds, toys and weewee pads are and she didn't have an incident. I felt so sorry for her cause she probably does'nt know why she is being separated from us so I took her out and put a weewee pad on the chair where we are sitting together. I let her sit with us (me and Pucci) on the weewee pad and she was fine....no dribble. I brought her into bed with us this AM at about 5ish and so far she is fine. I am going to wait to see if it happens again....this may have been just a bad day for her. I gave her some yogurt today I am wondering if she is allergic to it although I have given her that before. Well I will see what the week brings before I rush her to a vet, I am home Monday - Wednesday so I can keep a close watch. Tina:( |
Katy has that problem. Is Gigi spayed? My vet said it can be caused by the spaying. It started soon after for Katy. She takes Proin 50 to control it. |
Yes GiGi is sprayed.....she is 5 1/2 years old. At this time I am still thinking that she is signaling that she needs to be walked more often. I walk her outdoors 2x's a day and in the evening around 8 or 9ish I put her on a weewee pad (2 side by side) but watching her walk this morning she actually tinkled more than once even though some of it was just marking territory. So I think that the weewee pad situation may not be enough..she just might need more time to get it all out. So she may need to go out at night. This si not good cause it takes her very long to go out doors and when it is cold out we will both freeze....she like cold weather but it is too long for her to be out doors in cold bad weather. Well lets see how it goes...I am making the days that she has accidents on a calendar to I can follow it more clearly. whew:eek: Thanks for all the feed back and info...you guys are great;) Tina |
Peeing in their sleep is not normal. It sounds like she may have a UTI again. Did your vet check for crystals in the urine? She might have incontinence issues if she doesn't have a UTI or crystals. |
her urine was just checked 2 weeks ago and she was fine...that was after the UTI and medication. She wasn't sound asleep. Tina |
Hi Tina! Some dogs get recurring UTIs. They get better after antibiotics, but then after a couple of weeks can get them again. And sometimes dogs don't have UTIs but they do have crystals that may be causing problems. Whatever it is I hope she gets better quick! :) |
Being that it is recurring can she get the antibiotics with out an appointment. I am not too vet crazy at this time not cause of the cash but I don't like the vet. She has just had blood work and a full set of xrays (not that xrays would help UTI but she is clean through out). tina |
Maybe...You would have to talk to your vet. Usually I can get a prescription from our vet for antibiotics without an appointment because Miko has recurring UTI problems and he has a liver condition that requires him to take antibiotics to pull toxins from his bloodstream when he has HE symptoms, but I don't know if all vets will do that. |
