Kiwi is going to the O.C. to get a liver scan done! Kiwi's bile acid results came back a little high and so hubby and I are driving tonight from Fresno to the O.C., spending the night at a hotel, and dropping off Kiwi in the morning to get her liver scan done. It is a nuclear medicine scan where they give her a radioactive dye and see if she has a shunt or not. I would appreciate you sending Kiwi happy thoughts! Hopefully there is nothing wrong with her liver! |
I hope everything turns out great.:) Ellie might have to have one of those soon and I am not looking forward to it. |
I sure hope everything turns out OK. Lots of happy thought coming your way:exclaim:   :goodluck: Quote:

Thanks to everyone for sending good thoughts Kiwi's way. She really appreciates it:D ! Hubby and I stayed Wednesday night in Anaheim and then dropped Kiwi off Thursday morning at Advanced Veterinary Medical Imaging in Tustin. We checked Kiwi in and they said that the actual test doesn't take that long, but that we couldn't pick her up until 5pm because she would still be radioactive until then! Everyone said she did very well, but I won't know the results until this afternoon or maybe Monday. I am glad that the procedure is a painless one. She had no sedation or anesthesia, so when we picked her up she was completely fine and had absolutely no side effects! Kiwi's pre meal blie acid test was 65.5 and the post meal was 23.0. My vet said that it was just high enough that she wanted to get the scan done. Kiwi seems healthy and has no trouble gaining weight. This was more for my peace of mind and so that I could go ahead and get her spayed without worry. My vet thinks she probably has mild MVD or something, but we both wanted the scan to be sure. So the next step would be if the scan comes back as no shunt, Kiwi would get spayed and while they were in there, they would do a liver biopsy to see what is going on with the liver and how bad it is. Then, we would proceed from there. So, now is just the wait for the results. I hope they come back this afternoon... |
I will send prayers that she won't need surgery. Hugs and kisses to your baby from me. Bless her little heart! |
Glad she's done with the test. Cali has mild MVD, no treatment needed and her Bile acid was 0/94 and the second one 0/45 or something like that. She had the liver biopsy to confirm the MVD. Sounds like if anythingit is very mild like Cali's. |
Update! Kiwi doesn't have a shunt! :D :D :D Yeah!!! The vet just called and the liver scan shows no shunt! Thanks for your support everyone! The vet thinks she has mild MVD. When she gets spayed, they will do a liver biopsy and confirm that. Whew! That is a relief to know she doesn't have to go through major surgery to repair a shunt. |
