ATT: Los Angeles county, CANINE INFLUENZA Thanks to our local vet informing us in our community paper, that the Canine Influenza recently was announced by the Los Angeles County Health Department that this has now been detected in dogs within the various areas in L.A. County. There is no vaccine for it. In our opinion, upon all our vet visits we do this, we take precautionary measures by not putting our fur baby down on floor and also we always take a pee pad and put down on scale, exam table. Regardless, what the staff may say, this is how we do things :) good hygiene and thinking of the well being of our babies comes first. |
Thank you....this is good to know...I'm in L.A. County also...do you know if there are any perticular areas in L.A. County that are affected??? |

I copy and pasted this from todays newspaper article here in Calif. New outbreak of Canine Influenza. A new outbreak of canine influenza at a veterinary clinic in the San Gabriel Valley has recently been reported. Serum tests, repeated twice on some dogs to look for rising antibody levels, confirm the infection. Approximately 20 dogs were involved in the outbreak. How is it spread? Canine influenza is very easily spread from dog to dog. An infected dog can spread the virus for a day or so before acting sick. This makes it very difficult to prevent and stop outbreaks. Anything the dog coughs on or licks (bowls, blankets, toys etc) might also spread infection. People can accidentally spread canine flu when they touch an infected dog and then touch other dogs or objects before washing their hands. The virus might already be well “established” in Southern California. |
