I need help...somethings wrong with Hannah!! This is kind of long.... Sunday evening Hannah was running in the yard and she stumbled and did a front flip. She got up and couldn't walk, she was trying but it is like she couldn't get her back legs to work, not sure if she couldn't move both legs or just one because the grass was high. When I got to her she walking but not normally, I am not sure if she was favoring one side or if both hind legs was involved. But she started walking normally within 20 minutes. But she could not jump on the couch, she would try but she couldn't, so I either held her in my arms or had her in her taxi incase something was injured. I had planned to take her to the vet this morning but she got up and was walking and even running normally, and she jumped on the couch. So I didn't take her to the vet, but this evening she was playing with Bentley and she yelped out in pain and then started walking funny again. I don't know what is wrong but I have a feeling it is her hip or hips or her back. She will definetly go to the vet in the morning but I am really worried tonight and wondered if anyone had any ideas of what could be wrong. There is no emergency vet close to me. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I appreciate any help. |
My mom's dog Boo did this once it was like he pulled a muscle in his back and he acted like he was paralyzed. Within about 6 hours he was back to normal. Maybe she just pulled a muscle?? But i would watch her and if she is not any better in a day i would take her in. Don't let her jump anymore any keep her calm for tonight and see if that helps. Poor baby i hope she gets feeling better soon! |

She is sleeping now and even when she is awake she doesn't appear to be in any pain. Anyone else have any ideas???????????????????????? |
Posssibly her spine/back was sprained and certain movements aggrevate it or her knee dislocated and is going in and out sometimes. I hopeHannah feels better soon |

I hope its just a sprain that can heal with some good ole rest!! |

The only thing that I know is that when my Shi Tzu has strained his back (never really know how, just in jumping, running, etc., but it's happened a few times), he gets the Halloween kitty back. The vet can always tell how much pain he's in by how high the arch of the back is. When Hannah seems to be in pain, is her back arched at all? |

I hope all is okay ... probably is best to have the vet look at it ... sure sounds mysterious ... good luck! keep us updated please ... |

Sleep tight now...... |
Just got back from the vet...he said that it is her back and her spinal cord is swollen and pressing on the nerves. Gave her some anti-inflammatories and said to keep her up as much as possible for at least 2 weeks, no running and no jumping....this should be fun since that is all Hannah does is run and jump. He said to watch out if she starts to drag her back leg/legs or unable to go potty. I am so thankful that it is nothing worse. It is going to be hard to keep her and Bentley apart for 2 weeks though. |

I'm so glad it wasn't something worse! Whew! I don't envy you having to keep your baby calm. It's sooooo hard to do. |

Oh no, I hope she is ok and it isnt anything permanant. I remember when Louie tweaked his back last yeat and the steroids helped alot and he was back to his normal self within a day or two but he wasnt as bad as it sounds like Genie's is. I hope the anti-inflammatories help her. |
