Sick teddy bear I need help. I have a 12 week old, very small yorkie, who had a hypoglycemia attack this morning. When I got up he was lying there non-responsive. I gave corn syurp w/water, nutri-cal. and have tried feeding Science Diet AD and baby food, but he won't eat. I got the corn syurp water down first, with a pea size nutri-cal and he seemed better. Later he threw up alot of the water. I seems to feel a little better now but is just sleeping all the time. He went through chills but doesn't seem cold now. And ideas of something that I have NOT done or need to do now? Please respond. Thanks Dawn:confused: |
No ideas ? anyone? |
Hi , Please get him to a vet right away ,when my yorkie was a puppy she went into hypoglycemic shock and nearly died she too was thowing up ,and had the chills. They get dehydrated quickly when they are so small and need to go on an IV. Hope all is better soon please update when you get a chance |
If it's hypoglycemia, your baby should respond immediately to nutrical, honey, karo syrup, etc...If he doesn't respond fairly quickly, then it could be something else...Check for pink gums and tongue. If it's not pink, then he's dehydrated and needs fluids. I will pray for your baby. |
Update at 8:00 pm ? Fluids going in ok. He's drinking on his own now. I don't believe that he is dehydrated at this point. He seems to be feeling better but just doesn't want anything to do with food at all. I've used nutrical and karo ... haven't tried honey. I'll do that now. Thanks for the prayers and advice. Any thing else anyone? |
Instead of the a/d, try some regular plain boiled chicken and rice :) |
Boiled Hamburger you could try too, if the chicken doesn't work. Or jar baby food as well. |
Try honey-nut cherrios |
Nutri-cal, honey, corn syrup. Its all basically the same thing. If he's not responding to one then he will not respond to any of them. It sounds like something is seriously wrong here. You need to get him to a vet ASAP. |
Honey seemed to help more than the karo syrup. Today, Sunday, he seems fine. Woke me up with kisses, wanting to go potty and then ate breakfast. HE's been running around with the other two all morning. Sure glad to see that. Thanks for all the advice. Sure was scared. |
I agree with drawlins...karo, honey, nutri-cal all work the same. You have to really keep an eye...If he doesn't respond immediately to them, there's something else going on...My yorkie didn't respond immediately to karo, honey, and nutr-cal when he was a pup, and we later found out that he has liver issues...Please, make sure that he actually is responding to that in the moment. |
