Do Yorkie's typically have sensitive stomaches? Every time Zoey eats anything besides her dry food, she throws it up. At first I has giving her things besides her dog food, lettuce, treats, etc... I'm not going to give her anything else but her Purina One, for sensitive stomaches but was wondering if this is typical of Yorkies? and she is not sick and has a good appetite, It just seems her stomach gets upset at everything |
They should be hardy terrier type dogs so shouldn't be too sickly, my Duncan eats almost anything even half a rabbit once when the naughty boy caught one  |

I have three Yorkies.. Two of them can eat anything and it does not seem to bother them at all.. But my girl Ellie has a weak stomach.. She get a few treats here and there but we are careful because she cant handle it like the others.. So we give her treats like cottage cheese, boiled egg (1X a week) cracker with a bit of peanut butter, yogurt, things I know she can handle. Jope this helps. Joy |
Our Magic has a VERY sensitive stomach...if she eats anything but her food and some treats she will either throw up or have loose stool...and usually wants it starts, only medicine will correct it...when she was younger we had a lot of problems with it, but as she has gotten older she has this epsiodes less and less....our vet has been really good about working with us and giving us some ideas on what to give her and want not to give...we have our fingers crossed that she will grow out of it...but even if she doesn't, it just makes her speical... I don't think this is typical at all of Yorkies, though...we have known many, including our Sailor, who can eat anything and they are fine...I think it is just the luck of the draw!!! |

Magic and Zoey sound like our Gizzie!! Ever since we had her she has had a sensitive stomach and I have to be so careful what I give her and even then she is not always right. I was very glad to hear that it's possible for them to improve as they get older. Gizzie is going to be one next month and she has in fact had less tummy problems for a while - whether it's because I've found out what suits her or what I don't know...! I would definitely agree that it is not a common yorkie problem though - Gypsy Rose can eat anything and so could our two previous yorkies. I find that a few spoonfuls of natural yoghourt are good and she enjoys it. Ana xx |
Can Maggie join the "Puke Party"? Even if Maggie plays too hard, then drinks a little too much water, she will upchuck water. Yesterday, we had visitors. She loves to do her tricks for company. Her reward is tiny pieces of cheese. Well, up came cheese, because she was so excited to show off. My husband ask me if she would ever grow out of puking. I sure hope so. :( |

You got a point there. If I see her heading to the bathroom right after she eats, that will be a dead giveaway. ;) |
Coco is good with treats but she's like a vaccum. She sucks up everything she sees and once or twice she's thrown up from it. She got her first cube of heartworm meds last week, and she got loose stoole and drippy poop butt from it. So it can depend but her vet said, often times, toy dogs are more sensitive than larger breeds, just because there is only so much that agrees with their tiny systems. I'm more like Zoey and Magic than Coco. I have a sensitive stomach. Any docs here???Hahaha..... |
My vet told me it was common in Yorkies to have weaker stomachs than most dogs. Maybe he told us this since Cookie gets sick easily. We're trying to learn the limit for her on treats and such. If we give her too much, she pukes. She also pukes everytime we give her red-colored treats. I don't know why but she does. It seems that even though everyone here says Yorkies shouldn't have weak stomachs, there are quite a few Yorkies here that do have problems. |
With Magic when we try new treats, we always give her a tiny piece and let that piece go all the way thru her disgestive system before giving her anymore...that way we know if it is going to upset her...we have many that don't but many more that do.... What kind of food do you guys feed your little one with sensitive stomachs??? Right now we feed Magic Royal Canin but have been thinking about switching to something else to help her stomach... |

I guess you could say toby's stomache is sensitive anytime he eats too fast he throws up or when he is nervous he throws up so when he is eating his dinner we have to make sure its pretty quiet or he cant keep it down. |
