Newman. Jst. Got Back From The Vet. Hi all. We had Newman to the vet this morning (Sunday). After a long night of no sleep and long conversations with our doctor (Newman's Vet) we have decided to move forward. This morning they did a needle aspiration of the lymph node and a senior profile (Blood work). He is being scheduled for a chest x ray and for and ultra sound. If everything comes back clean we are going to procede to have his leg amputed and hope for the best. If anything at all looks dirty then we will keep him comfortable until the time comes for us to have him PTS. Our vet feels that Newman's odds are very good that with an amputation he will do well, however, he has stressed that these odds are based on the norm of this tumor whereas due to it's location and it being rare (Never Seen) there are unknowns and it could react badly in which case the surgery was useless. Thank you everyone for the support, nice notes, calls and SophieRose I'm sorry about your baby. I hadn't realized that you had just lost your little one recently. Please, continue to pray for good results all the way around. I just couldn't give up on him as he himself seems fine except for that foot. Thanks again. Elaine |

I had Newman on my mind when I went to bed last night. I'm so glad you posted this update. I'll be praying for Newman that all goes well and once the surgery is over he heals quickly with no recurrence of the tumor. Do you know when the surgery will be? |
Trooper Newman He is a little trooper and your writing sounds strong, Elaine. Thank you for your kinds words about Sophie. Will hold Newman close to my heart, and sending healing thoughts his way. Warmly, Deborah:hearts-xx |
Praying for a good outcome for Newman. |
Ohh,, I am so sorry, I just read this tread. I really hope all goes well. |
The goal is sometime this week. Hi again everyone. Thanks so much. ILuveLucy (Kim) we are hoping to have his surgery done a day this week. All we are really waiting on are the results of the aspiration of the lymph node and blood work results to come back and we have to have a chest x ray and ultra sound done. The doctor feels that we will have this all completed and Newman's surgery done this week. He said that he likes to do things right away because the longer you think about it - you start second guessing. He says it's easier on us to just do it and not think about it. He did say that Newman will be documented in the books and a paper written on him, since it's the first time it's been seen. They want to keep track of what was done and the results in hopes of helping other dogs that may have this at some point. Elaine |
Elaine, I am praying that once Newman has the surgery that all his and your problems will be behind both of you. :hands: Please keep us updated. Newman, you hang in there buddy, everything will be ok. :aimeeyork |
Was wondering how things went at the vets today...I think it sounds promising....I pray that it is. Know that you and Newman will continue to be on my mind and in my heart as you proceed with this weeks test and procedure. And maybe, just maybe this will help someone else who'll have a beloved pet with the same diagnosis some day. If I could I'd give you a big hug, this is never easy to go through...but be strong, Newman will need you to take care of him. I wish, I hope and pray that Newman will be well again real soon. |
Elaine....please know that Newmie, you and your family are in my prayers. I know how hard this has been on you & your family. Once surgery is complete and he's back on track please let me know because I wanna go see him. He's such a lovely little boy. Give him lots of kisses from me please. |
oh wow. so this is the first thread i've seen about Newman so i went back and read all the updates on him. I'm happy your going along with the amputation as long as the chest rads and U/S are clear. May i ask who the oncologists are that your vet spoke with and who is going to do the amputation? I've assisted with numerous amputations because of mast cell tumors and all patients have done wonderfully. Granted Newman's tumor is in an odd place ( i can't recall seeing one on the pad either), i do think he will do great. I'll be praying that the rads and U/S come back OK and the surgery is a success! |
My prayers going to you and Newman. May he go from strength to strenght. Please keep us posted. |
My thoughts and Prayers are with little Newman and you ! |
Prayers for Newman, you and the family & for his doctors. :aimeeyork Hugs. |
Prayers for sweet Newman, and for a complete resolution of the tumor. Give him a kiss from me. |
Aw, sweet little Newman - I am so hopeful for a xuccessful surgery. I know it's scarey. My dad's cat, Schnicklefritz, got into a catfight, got a claw puncture in his hip that got infected. It was so bad and spreading, the vet suggested having him pts. He was, after all, a stray. My dad said no, this beautiful little stray is a wonderful little friend, so try amputation. They took his entire leg and discovered they had to take all of his hip, too. Took about 1/4 of the cat away. He not only survived, but adapted in no time and did wonderfully. I pray that Newan's surgery will provide as happy an ending as Fritzie's did. Miracles are floating around and Newman sure deserves one. God Bless you, Little One. |
Prayers still coming, and please keep us updated. |
I'll continue to pray for Newman and you. Hope all goes well with his surgery. |
prayers are for you and Newman, |
Newman has been in my prayers since the first post I read about his tumor. Please know that we are here for you and will continue to keep both you and him in our thoughts. It's good news that the vets are feeling confident about the amputation. I'll be watching for updates. |
Elaine, prayer's coming for Newman's progress to be great after the amputation. It's amazing how animals adjust so readily to only three legs. I have my finger's crossed that the surgery goes well and Newman has wonderful healthy years ahead. Hugs from, |
Of course - TONS and TONS of PRAYERS for NEWMAN!!! :getwellso :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :getwellso |
I am praying for Newman |

Prayers on their way for Newman and his mommie. I hope all goes well with the surgery and he'll be good as new with his other legs to run around on.:) |
