Limping with loose nail Hi My yorkie is limping and her nail is loose in the nail bed. It is not swollen or infected, but it has bled a little and I have put a sock on her foot. Does anyone know if the nail will just fall out on its own and will another nail grow, or do I need to take her to the vet? Thank you. |
Hi! I'd just call the vet for his opinion. No sense going in if he/she can tell you what to do over the phone. |
I would surely go to the Vet, my Gizmo was in a lot of pain with his. |
nail If the nail is quite loose, you can give a tug and pull it off, hold some cotton wool against it to stop the blood if it bleds much...if not, the vet will need to do it.. Every time she steps it hurts... |
Will it grow back? |
Thank you for your replies. I will take her to the vets next week. |
Gizmo's grew back.;) |
Maddie had her dew claw nail torn off when she was playing fetch in the grass one day. She limped on it for half the day then she wouldn't let me touch it for a couple more days, but it ended up growing back on it's own. I'd say to try and get the hanging nail off first. She'll probably get better within a couple of days. If not, then take her in. |
nail Most grow back unless the nail bed was severely damaged... |
Hi, hope all is going well for your Yorkie's nail. I'm going through the exact same thing! I took Duke to his groomer since I thought it was a nail, she would probably know what to do. She told me to just let it heal up, gave me some numbing cream, typical keep him off it and try to ice it. But, as of today Duke's nailbed on that nail is swollen and red. He's limping and just not happy. No idea what he did to pull it. His hasn't bled at all... so, maybe there is still some hope for it, but it may have gotten infected and/or pulled more. Wish I would have taken him to the vet. right away now. Took off tomorrow from work and have a vet. appt. |
How is everyones nails? I personally would take them to the vet, and have the nail removed by them and let it heal properly. Good luck to all of oyu. You have all out best. |
I have managed to get Jasmine's nail off. It was hanging loose and I gently twisted it around. It didn't bleed. I am checking her foot every few hours to make sure it is not getting infected, and I am putting antiseptic on it. She is wearing a sock and seems a lot happier now, but she is still limping. I expect she will be limping for a few days. |
Just letting you know that for Duke's loose nail the vet. cut the nail very short so he would not walk on it, gave him a prednisone shot so he would lick at it less and leave it alone to it can secure itself and heal up, and put him in clindamycin drops just in case the redness/swelling was an infection (he had small temp., just about .5 over the normal). He has a check-up in a week and 24 hours after the vet. visit he is doing much better. |
Jamine has stopped limping and I have taken her for a small walk to-day. I can now see a new nail growing back. I hope Duke's nail gets better soon. |
Glad you're not having any complications! :) |
