Bloody feet We had the scare of our lives yesterday while we were all outside, people in the pool and dogs running around being splashed and barking and chasing their toys. They "throw" them in the pool then chase after when we throw them out. Well our male is a "spazz" over his white wiffle ball and was playing with grandkids for a few hours, running on the pavers around our pool when we saw all this blood all around the pool. I first checked all the grandkids, no one was hurt. I went first to Lexie, who is nursing 7 puppies and wasn't out in the action a whole lot, but she was fine. We then saw Harley's feet. His feet, all four of them where bloody. I picked him up, dried him off and was holding him when I saw where all the blood was coming from. Every nail was bleeding from running on the pavers. He was not in pain and just wanted to go back to play. I put liquid bandaid on the nails and they are all fine, a little short but fine. I made him stay inside and he is fine, will not need his nails trimmed for awhile though. Has anyone ever had this happen to one of their furbabies? It scared us, but didn't seem to faze Harley!! |
Wow! That would scare me too. I'm glad it didn't hurt. I would also like to know if anyone else has had this happen. |
Yes, My sister had a yorkie girl named haylee she passed away in 2005, she loved swimming and running round the outside around the pool all day long, jumped in the pool got out from the ladder and running and chasing the kids, her bottom of her paws would bleed,we also put her in the house because believe me she would not let up, we cleaned with peroxide and some times has to wrap them up, may you rest in piece you sweet girl. |
He will be fine. But at least now you know how to keep his nails short. Maybe keep a little quickstop around in case he over does it again. If he keeps this up the quicks in his nails will receed and he will have really short nails which is a good thing. |
It happened again today, and we did have the quick stop and it worked like a charm. You just would not believe the amount of blood that can come from those nails. Harley just loves the pool though and playing with the kids, so it is the price he pays!! |
I wish my two could get their nails ground down by playing like that. We walk them all the time but still have to either get the electric drumel or a very coarse emery board to file them down. Those little nails can really bleed quite a bit. I've seen that too many times I'm afraid. |
