Help,My Baby has GME-Granulomatous Meningioencephalitis My 1 year old yorkie Brooke was just diagnosed with GME, Granulomatous Meningioencephalitis. It is a uncurable brain disease but I am wondering if anyone has experience with this disease and how long their yorkie lived with it? I am completely devasted by this diagnosis but I am looking for a ray of hope from someone. Thanks, Nanci, Brooke's Mom |
I'm so sorry you're going thru this - there's a blue search bar right above where you type your posts - and you can type 'GME' and find lots of threads about it - when the site 'searches' for you - the words it picks up will be in RED and sending a hug - that's very sad to hear eddited - I just tried a search for you and it said the words were too common - that's new - our searches used to pick this up and I'll keep trying to find threads for you to read |
Here - since it didn't come up in searches here - and it should have - I went thru google ...this article is a little more positive than some others I just read http://www.dvmnews.com/dvm/article/a...l.jsp?id=62251 |
I am so sorry to hear about your little one. I read the article that V suggested because I have not heard of this and I feel so bad for you and your baby. I am hoping it was a misdaignosis or something and Brooke gets better soon. |
There are no sure answers..and it depends on how severe the symtoms. Most let them go to Rainbow Bridge if the pain can not be controlled..best wishes |

More Info on Brooke 2 Attachment(s) Brooke is 1 yr. old and 2 3/4 lbs. She just started being wobbly and my husband thought she might have had a stroke, because she would stumble and sometimes fall to one side. We initially didn't think it was very serious. She still eats like a champ and no vomiting or diarrhea. The vet thought that she might have hurt her back or her disc in her back but then her blood work came up abnormal. She went to an internal medicine specialist but they assessed that it was probably neurological. So we drove up to UC Davis Veterinary hospital, because if they couldn't figure it out, then no one would. They are the ones who did an MRI and a Cranial Spinal Tap and diagnosed her with GME. Luckily it doesn't look like she has the Necrotizing type that yorkies tend to get, that form is worse. She can go down 2 paths, the meds could work and she will go into a remission and we could have her for a year or more. Or if the meds don't work, she could be gone in a matter of weeks. We will know more in a week or so when she has another spinal tap and we will see if the meds are helping her white blood count go down. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, if love could cure her, she certainly would be cured! |
OMG - she's such a cute little punkin!! :hands: :hands: :hands: that everything will turn out well for your baby. |
OH my gosh she is beautiful! I am so sorry to hear about her sickness. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Keep positive thoughts ! |
She is so precious. praying that she will be able to go into remission. God bless you. |
Update on Brooke Well, I haven't been able to update because I have been really busy taking care of Brooke and driving back and forth to UC Davis hospital. Brooke had a stroke 4 weeks ago during a Cranial Spinal Tap. She had a bad reaction to the anathesia and came out of it in a contorted c position. She couldn't move and cryed when you moved her. Over the last 4 weeks, her progress has been amazing. She had a few small seizures but she is on predisone and phenobarbitol and she is doing better now. She can stand and walk for a few seconds. She eats and drinks like a champ. She has the heart of a lion and constantly inspires me daily. She has a light inside her that refuses to be extinguished! She is still not normal but she gets stronger everyday and she is determined to live every day to the fullest, which is what we all should be doing. I am very proud of my little girl, and am so grateful that I am her Mommy! Please keep praying for her!:) |
Thanks for the update, and I will continue to pray for your precious baby... |
