Rebel had to see the vet this morning! He tried to climb on my son's bed Friday nite and didn't quite make it up. He began limping, but never cried out in pain. I decided to watch it for a couple of days but he was still limping this morning. I had the day off so I got up early and took him to the vet. After checking him over thoroughly, the vet told me that he has luxating patella in both back knees. She gave me rimadyl for immediate relief and told me to call her immediately or bring him right in if he seems to get worse. She wants to watch it for 3 weeks to see if his current condition improves or gets worse. She has a terrier (not a yorkie) with luxating patella in both knees and she said it only bothers him occasionally, but she watches it like a hawk to see if he deteriorates and needs surgery. She said she wants to watch Rebel the same way. She said it might not bother him again, or he may need surgery but she wants to be conservative right now. She told me that she preferred her patients go to a specialist to have the surgery if needed because it's not her specialty and she wants to make sure her "babies" get the best care possible. I'm so sad:( today's his 11 month birthday. When I got home tonight he was getting around a little better, but you can still tell he's favoring the back left leg. |
aw feel better rebel:( hopefully he won't need the surgery |
here's hoping the Rimadyl and the rest helps......feel better Rebel! |
Hallee went to the vet twice this week with same thing. We don't know how she did it. She started limping really bad Sunday night. Vet put her on Rimadyl also. Both her back legs, but her left is worse than the right. He said we are looking at surgery for her left because every time it moves her knee slips. He wanted to see how she is in 10 days. However, our vet said he could do the surgery, but we are more comfy with ortho specialist with small breeds. We have already gotten a referral and we will know more details about the appointment tomorrow. They estimated it will cost us 900.00-1200.00 for the surgery. I trust my vet, but I will be happy when the specialist checks her out to determine if she really needs the surgery right now. We are just trying to keep her from trying to jump on the couch ect. We have refrained from sitting on the couch because she keeps wanting up and down, so we just sit on the floor with her. Just breaks my heart seeing her limp ect. However, she has not made a sound as if she is in pain. |
feel better soon Rebel!!:aimeeyork Hopefully, he won't need surgery, but if he does, really they bounce back alot faster than you think they will. Wishing you both all the best!! |
Rebel Hope Rebel feels better soon and does not need surgery. My little one had luxating patella in both legs. Left one was the worst but it was cheaper to have them both done at once. She went to an orthopedic specialist who specializes in the field. He was a great surgeon. She came through the surgery fine. j:) |
