surgery today My Rex is scheduled for patella luxation surgery today. It was recommended by his vet and the specialist as well since he was diagnosed as grade 3 in his left leg. I will be so relieved when I get a call tonight from the vet. Please think of my baby today in your prayers today. |
Wanted to find out how your baby is. My Rebel was just diagnosed with luxating patella in both hind legs. I'm not familiar at all with the surgery. Hope your baby's ok |
I can understand what you are going through. Hallee saw our regular vet on Monday and Tuesday. Her left is worse than her right. She sees specialist on Monday if they think she needs surgery she will have it that afternoon. I can not believe how much it costs for pet surgery. |
I hope surgery went well and your baby is home with you. |
Sending Tex healing thoughts. Warmly, Deborah |
Any updates?? Checking in on your baby, hope all is well. |
Let us know how the surgery went and what I can expect for my Hallee next week. |
The vet called me yesterday and said Rex is not putting any weight on the surgery leg, and not eating, which they say is not unusual. I am hoping he will eat once he is home. I am surprised to learn he is returning without a cast of any type but will have pain meds and an antibiotic, like Phoebi had posted. It was diffficult to decide to go forward with the surgery-he didn"t "skip" all the time, but it it has been progressing and he injured a ligament in the same leg a few weeks ago. With the assistance of friends and the support of people on this board I was able to choose a surgeon I felt best able to perform his surgery. I'll post tonight after I pick him up He's coming home! Anne |
GREAT NEWS and good luck with his recouperation ! |
How is Rex since he came home? Is he eating now? Just looking for an update.............. |
Rex update Looking to see if Rex is home and how he is doing. Hope he is eating and feeling better. j:) |
My baby is home. He came home with medacam and an antibiotic (no cast). I set up an ex pen for him and he is there now. He isn't interested in doing much except sleeping and sitting on my lap, so I thought now would be the time to get him accustomed to a restricted setting. He usually has the run of the house. He is clearly uncomfortable and won't put the surgery leg down and holds it out when he sits. It is a little bruised and swollen but the incision itself is very clean. He is peeing and pooping and eating an adequate amount-with a little chicken mixed in, of course to interest him. He slept fine last night which I think is the key to healing early on. I am so glad he is home! I would suggest using the collar-he didn't bother the incision when he was neutered, so I was surprised to see him attempting to lick the site when I removed the collar. Needless to say, its back on now! Thanks for all your thoughts Ladybug, Ilovelucy I know your decisions are hard ones. Feel free to PM me or we can talk on the phone. I'll be around all weekend! |
Prayers and best wishes are coming your way. |
Rex So glad Rex is home and is doing so well. j:) |
I'm glad he's home and back in your arms. Hope he continue's to improve and has a complete recovery. |
I'm so glad Rex is home and doing well in your loving care. I can feel for you. Gracie was just diagnosed today and I'm already worried sick. I do hope little Rex stops hurting and starts healing soon. We will be thinking of him and sending him well wishes. Please keep us posted. |
Glad to hear Rex doing well, both my yorkie and poodle going in for surgery on both back legs for patellas tommorrow. I am truly dreading this, but am encouraged by your report. Hug that little fella for Charlie and Bosley! |
WOW - I can't believe I missed this thread  Anne, I am glad to hear your baby is home and he is healing. You'll see, as the weeks go by he will get better and better ;) Looking forward to some updates and to see you at a Yorkie Meetup soon  |
Hi everyone: Rex's surgery was a week ago today. His incision looks great-it is nearly healed, and he does not seem to be uncomfortable at all. He sleeps closer to me than ever! He has yet to put any weight on the surgery leg so of course I am concerned but the vet said this is typical of small dogs. Nicole, thank you again for all your advice-I am wondering if you did any type of physical therapy exercises after surgery. The xpen in my kitchen saved me-I went to a baby store and bought waterproof crib sheets for the floor "just in case" he got mad for being confined, (no accidents, yet, anyway). Nicole, I believe I owe you thanks for the xpen suggestion. It has saved me. Shadream, try not to be scared-I know just how you feel and the worst part, I think, for us is just before-try and focus on picking them up! You will be in our thoughts tonight and please let us know everything goes tomorrow. Rex has a "check up" Friday and I hope to know more then. |
Thank you Quote:
Thank you so much for words of encouragement, I will try to post tommorrow nite and let u know, I know this is for the best and I will be glad when they are healed and so much better, its just getting thru it I guess, sleep doesn't want to come easily tonite, I know you understand. I too plan to use an xpen in my kitchen. I think that will be best. God bless. |
That is such good news about Rex, and it sounds like his recovery is successful. |
