leggs perthes/luxating patella- front legs or back? Lucy hurt her leg today, not severely but she is favoring it a little. It's her left front. I hopped on YT of course to do a search on what to do (should I ice it?) and I found a lot of results for both leggs perthes & luxating patella. I knew Yorkies could get the luxating patellas, but I had never heard of the leggs perthes condition. I was wondering if one or both of these diseases show up in the front or back legs, or either? I was trying to google them and all this talk of knees... I don't know, do dogs have knees in their front and back legs?? I am going to wait a little and see how she feels tomorrow before dashing off to the vet. I think she may have twisted it slightly while chasing the cat. Just a motherly hunch. Teresa |
I'm sorry Lucy hurt herself. If she'll let you ice it that would be a great idea. Also try and limit her running/jumping for the next few days (good luck with that one! lol) Luxating patellas and legg perthes are both involving the back legs. Luxating patellas has to do with the knee caps and only back legs have them. Legg perthes has to do with the hip socket and again only the back legs are involved. Here's hoping she just bruised or sprained her leg and will be good as new before you know it. |
Aw, Tink has Legg Perthes disease. It was in her right back hip. She had her surgery and is recoverying from that very well. Sounds like it may be something else with your little one thoug since it's the front. I wish you well and hope it heals without further trouble. |
Lucy's leg is all better, which is a relief! She's back to chasing cats as usual. Teresa |
YAY! Glad to hear it was nothing serious. |
