My Cali is Very Sick -- Advice Please As some of you know, my Cali has been sick off and on with a cold. She just can't seem to shake it. :( She has been sneezing and sniffling for weeks. We've been to the vet about twice a week for the past month and it's cost us over $600 for a COLD!! Well Jim just went home for an early lunch break to check on her and he called me and said she seems really distressed; so he took her to the vet. The vet admitted her. He said her cold has turned to pneumonia!!! :( Guys, please help!! She's been taking all her meds regularly and I'm just at a total loss!! Why is this happening? I don't understand!! She's been taking her meds like clock work and I've been doing EVERYTHING the vet has told me to do. I even took her to another vet just to be sure and he said the meds she is taking should clear up her cold. Now my poor baby is even more sick and she may have to stay at the hospital for a few days. :( I'm such a nervous wreck and I don't know what to do!! :( Please please ANY ADVICE at all would be greatly appreciated!! I'm so scared for her. She's lost weight. She use to weigh 1 lb and 3 oz and now she is 1 lb and 1 oz. That may not seem like a lot but for a dog Cali's size, trust me it's a lot. I'm freaking out over here. I just can't lose another baby. :( I never got over losing my Katie and I won't let it happen again!! |
Poor Cali! :( Could the air conditioning be bothering her little body? Baby and I send our kisses. :animal36 |
OH NO!!! Poor little Cali. Auntie sends her kisses. Don't freak out just yet Jen, you gotta stay calm for her. Your tension will make her nervous so try to relax. She's in good hands. In no time at all she'll bounce right back to her normal weight. Sometimes when a respiratory infection settles it can turn into pneumonia. It's kind of a long drawn out process, infact I wouldn't be surprised if she's had that all along and not just a cold. But she's in good hands and the meds will help her get better. Give her lots of kisses, and hugs and she'll feel better in no time. Hugs to you too :) |

I was wondering as well if it could be the ac. I don't really have any suggestions other than to maybe turn down the ac, also check the filters in it. Maybe she actually has allergies and the spores and dust that get in the filter might be affecting her. Either way Lulu sends hugs and prayers Cali's way. |

You dind't do anything wrong. Just wait and see what the vet has to say. Maybe the meds they gave her the dosage wasn't enough. |

She's actually been sneezing out chunks of mucus this week. She'll be laying down on my lap and sneeze and this wad of junk will come shooting out of her little nose and onto my leg. :( My poor baby. She's just so little to be fighting a big infection like this. Jim said she cried when they put the IV in. :( :( I'm leaving work a half day (at 1 p.m.) and heading over there to be with her and talk to the vet. Jim didn't think she would get admitted to the vet's office so he didn't bring her favorite blanky or anything with her. I want to go home and get it for her. Maybe the smell of it will comfort her. :( |

So she really is a mammas girl..she has allergies just like you ;0) Did the vet even contemplate that it might be an allergy? I know I had read somewhere that a dog was on some sort of allergy meds because they turned out to be allergic like a human. |
I am so sorry she's so sick. Hope she's feeling better soon. You're so sweet to go take her blankie to her. You family is in our prayers. |
I am sorry that Cali is so sick! :( I am sending well wishes her way right now!! Please keep us updated on how she is doing. Tammy |

Right with you there ...lol. She will be right as rain soon. All that love will go a long way. |
aww...poor baby! Please don't blame yourself...the fact that the antibiotics didn't work just leads me to believe her cold/pneumonia is caused by a virus as opposed to a specific bacteria. I'm sure with some support, IV and maybe even some oxygen, she'll get better before you know it. Hugs to you both.... |
