Wobie ate a Pill! I saw Wobie chewing on something so I got it out of his mouth. It was my little sister's 20 mg Fluoxetine pill (I think its like a generic form of prozac). When I got it out, the gel capsule part was still intact, just with a tiny hole in it, and a lot of the powder stuff inside spilled out when I picked it up. But I'm thinking some of the powder came out inside his mouth. Its a really small dose to begin with, because my sister is only 10. What should I do? I'm so worried. :( |
He will probably be fine but I would call the vet to make sure. Watch him close for any changes. |
Oh Boy, I'd call your Vet and ask what they think. Keep us posted. |
Some dogs are prescribed prozac anyway, so if he didn't get much into his mouth it will probably be ok. Did you ask the vet yet? |
I called the vet and they said to come in if he throws up or becomes lethargic. And that worries me because I wonder what'll happen after that... |
Oh no!! He is prob going to be fine.. but I could call your vet ASAP just in case. |
Oh no! I hope Wobie will be okay! |

When I saw him with the pill earlier, I freaked out and took it out of his mouth and started looking all over the house for a bottle of blue and white pills so I could know what it was...the whole time my little sister was looking really worried. I thought she was worried about Wobie, but she was worried about me finding out she dropped her pill on the floor and didn't pick it up. |
If your vet didn't tell you to bring him right in, or to call poison control, I wouldn't worry too much. It sounds like you're watching him closely. Can you get him to drink a lot. That might help flush it out. Max once swallowed one of my hormone pills. He was fine, but my vet had me call poison control (the ASPCA) just to be sure. |
Anna Banana hope your baby turn out to be fine:aimeeyork |
How's he doing today? |
Aaaaw!! Anna I just saw this post about li'l Wobie!!!:( What a fright you must have had with Wobie being such a tiny little guy!!! Hope he's doing fine today. From what I have read, he seems okay. You have to be so careful with puppies.... they just have to chew every little scrap they find on the floor. Are you coming to the Park Bench Cafe with all of us on Saturday??? I still laugh when I think of Wobie at the last meetup.... humping every Yorkie he could get his teeny little paws on. With him being such a young puppy, it was just too hysterical for words. I could have eaten him with a really tiny spoon, he was that sweet....:littleang |
as long as we are on that subject  Tede got something once. we thought it was a pill. the vet had me give him a few c.c of peroxide. to throw up. we have lots of mushrooms where we are. So yes we pull out every ting and do are best to keep him safe buttttt. o.k. i made a first aid kit for my house. for tede. the hygrine proxicide and a little syringe I put in. for that reason. help with this... in a extreme case when you think its bad do you use this to make them up chuck before taking to vet. thanks all you y.t.s you guys are the best |
How are things today??? I'm hoping there were no ill effects. |
I did not finish sorry. I am working. but I want to know how your baby is doing. :animal36 |
How is he doing now? Any updates? |
I just happened across this thread... Thought I'd mention that my mom's puppy was actually prescribed fluoxetine, as a form of doggie prozac. She was 10 weeks old and about eight pounds, a miniature schnauzer. She had a very sensitive stomach and nerves would very tight, and the doc prescribed a combination of fish & potatoes diet, doggie prozac, and pepto. Three years later now, my mom has switched her over to a regular dog food with chicken in it, and she'd discontinued his pepto quite a while ago. But she still takes the little bit of fluoxetine every day - it actually calms her, which includes keeping her stomach calm. Don't worry though - she's still a very very active and rather hyper dog despite the prozac - the prescription was to help her stomach, not to make her a more "manageable" dog. Just in case anyone reading this was worried. :-) Anyways, just thought I'd share. Seems like at least in a very accidental small dose, fluoxetine certianly isn't toxic to small dogs.
