Pixie's in Surgery Sorry for not being able to post this before as I haven't had access to the internet (We are in the process of moving back home, and they haven't got the phone lines established there yet)... Pixie went in today for her left knee surgery (luxating patella - grade 3). She had her right one done in April (grade 4) and made a miraculous recovery - we're praying for the same today. I called to check on her a few minutes ago - her blood work came back normal and she was handling the anesthesia well - and they were about 1/2 done with her. I will be picking her up this afternoon - if she's doing well, she comes home; if she's having problems, she transfers to the hospital. If ya'll could join in our prayers for the rest of the surgery to go well and her recovery to be as pain-free as possible. Thanks everyone! |
Praying for a speedy recovery Pixie! Get well Soon. |
Prayers on the way from our house. :getwellso |
Prayer's coming for Pixie that this surgery goes perfectly like the last. |

Pixie, I'm praying for you to have a successful surgery and a very speedy recovery. My thoughts are with you... |
Prayers in abundance -- and a boatload of positive thoughts -- headed your way. |
Sending prayers upward and hugs outward :ghug: And get well wishes for Pixie! |
Pixie's doing well - she came through surgery fine. They finished her leg up and ended up having to take the pin out of her right leg, too - so both legs are stitched up and her front paw is bandaged from the IV... but she's alive and we'll start physical therapy as soon as she's able :D She is home and doing well :D Thanks everyone for your prayers! |
GREAT NEWS !! Bless her heart - she's like the Bionic Puppy CURED !! I hope she isn't in too much pain - ALL THE BEST TO her on her first night home....and I hope each day brings her faster to being all back to normal. That had to be so stressful today and I'm glad for you that she's home now. |
Now Pixie and I are both in therapy for both of our knees. Poor little Pixie. |
Hoping Pixie comes out of surgery with flying colors. Hope she has a quick and comfortable recovering!!!!! |
Just saw this!! I am thankful that little Pixi came through with flying colors. I will be praying for a speedy recovery and she will be dancing on both those little legs before you know it!! ;) |
So glad Pixie is doing well! She'll be running around before you know it! |
Way to go Pixie...good girl!!! Glad that she's doing fine... |
Quick update on Pixie :D She's doing well. She did whine from pain once today - I immediately got up and gave her another dose of pain meds... whew. I feel so sorry for her - she can't walk or hardly stand up. She stands for a second, then sways, and if you don't pick her up, she falls right over. Right now, we're doing ice (for swelling) and pain meds. And of course, bones :D For the most part, she hasn't complained of any pain... yipeee! Once we get past the ice for pain and swelling and she starts at least putting her left leg DOWN, then we start physical therapy... beginning with range of motion and massages, but moving into taking walks and swimming therapy :D But really, she's doing well and I think will make a great comeback once again... :D Thanks everyone for your prayers! |
awww....poor Pixie. So glad to hear she's home and on her way to a complete recovery. Hang in there....I've been in your shoes. It just takes some time and she'll be ready to go! |
Kris... Sorry I am just seeing this thread. I don't know how some people on here get through all the threads they do... it takes me FOREVER. Anyways... glad to hear Pixie did good in surgery.. Hope she has another MIRACULOUS recovery. She is tooo cute to be hurting. P.S. Glad to hear you are getting to move back home. |
I am so happy to hear Pixie is doing well! If you're interested in talking to someone who has been through this with both legs at once, I can put you in touch with the person who adopted Shira [Trish's daughter, Heather]. It was a long uphill battle but her little legs are perfect now. Her's was so bad, she walked on her two front legs for most of her life!! Tell little Pixie that Toto sends her lots of sweet puppy smoochies and says to snuggle with her Mom and do everything she says!! ;) |

This is our 4th surgery - our 2d for luxating patellas, our 3d on a leg in general... so we're no strangers to leg surgeries! Even my vet told me not to worry about the 1 week checkup. He told me that I'm experienced and I tend to catch everything early, so just call him if I notice anything. I was shocked that the vet was so trusting! But then again, he's seen us through 4 surgeries now... so I guess he knows our past experiences and how we've done so far. I've been playing Dr. Mom - Between Pixie and her recovery and my husband's little puppy is ill (she could use some prayers - she's pretty lethargic, I'm doing everything I can for her, and we're in close contact with the vet to make sure she doesn't go hypoglycemic, but they say we're doing all we can - if she doesn't get better soon, we'll end up having to admit her for IV's) |
Not that I don't want to talk to others about it, but I also don't have access to the internet except at school :p so I'm pretty much not here for a few more days till they get the phone lines fixed... But really, I think we'll be ok :D |
Best wishes to you and Pixie, your husband and his puppy... |
Get well, Pixie and we are sending you a big, hug. Warmly, Deborah |
