sinus problems I am new to the scene, although my husband has a profile. I decided that I wanted to start my own. He's asked a few questions previously about our little Ender having sinus problems. And much to our dismay, they are still continuing. I just wanted to toss out a few things to see if any of you have encountered anything like what Ender is going through. Since we moved to Arizona, he's been suffering from what we can only assume is allergies. Which interestingly enough didn't show up until after we moved and he received his Bortetella vaccine (through the nose). This year, his allergies are worse than ever. He's constantly stuffed up, does the reverse sneezing at times, lost his appetite because he can't smell the food, and now one of his eyes is a little swollen, and discharge is coming out. I have made ANOTHER appointment to see what is going on, but can't get in until thursday. They keep telling me to give him children's Benedryl, which hasn't done anything for him. I have also ordered the HomeoPet nose relief drops from petmeds.com, which have worked a little in the past, but aren't making any improvements this time around. Ender has also been on antibiotics in the past. I am worried sick about him, because the poor little guy can't breath, and I know how uncomfortable he must be. Is waiting until Thursday too long? Or should I try another vet to get in sooner than that? Does anyone have any suggestions or remedies that can help Ender out? |
Hi - I don't have any suggestions for you, but I hope you get the answers you need and welcome to YT. |
Thanks! You live in Chandler also huh? Do you have a vet that you would recommend? |
I think a ton of yorkies are having bad allergy problems this season, my yorkies included. Benedryl seems to be working for us, though. Hopefully the vet will be able to give you something a little stronger. So sorry I'm no help! Hopefully someone else can chime in and give you more advice. |

My boys have allergy problems as well. They take a half tablet of Temaril (from the vet) every other day which really works well for them. I also bring them into the bathroom every morning when I take a shower. The steam from the shower really helps them when they are stuffy. I also take nose drops (containing only saline) and drop a couple of drops down each nostril every night. This helps to lubricate their throats which can become dry from allergies. I also use an eye wash to flush out any pollen or allergins that gets in their eyes and causes them to water. Hope that helps. Forgot to add that I use a humidifier during the winter to add some moisture to the air because dry air also causes their throats to become dry. |
Breathing and Eye Problems My vet said the two most important things to get them in right away is eyes and breathing so i would go if having breathing and the eye prob. There are other antihistamines that you can try as well as benedryl. I use a 1/4 tablet of a 25mg for my girl yorkie and she is 6lbs but the benedryl did not help with hers as she has atopic dermatitis and severe itching. I have only had the swollen eye one time as she itched it on carpet and had a bad allergic reaction and they gave her eye drops and a dexamothesone shot for itching. Allergies are no fun and i have been working with dermatologist and holistic vets as well as regular vet for 2 1/2 years and still not completely there but better :( |
Chlorpheniramine For Allergies... My Little Samie Is The Same Way. Runny Nose, And A Clear Gel Like That Forms In Her Eyes. She Currently Is On 2 Mg Chlorpheniramine Tabs Twice A Day. Now She Rarely Does The Reverse Sneezing While Drinking Water. Maybe Once A Month She Will Do It. |
