Bun Level @ 27. Advice Pls! Okay, so we brought Dunks to the Vet on tuesday because we found a growth on his testes. The et said its an absess (sp?) and he suggest that we do blood work and have him castrated (which we are on Tuesday 6/12/07). So the vet tech calls me today and said that Dunks' BUN level was at 27, which was still in the normal range right? And he is only 11 months, still a puppy. I read that puppies BUN levels tend to be higher since their food has more protein in it also I have been giving him bully sticks which are also high in protein. Now I am thinking whether I should do a urinalysis, if I really need it or what? Are they just trying to make me pay for services that I dont need, coz the urinalysis is 55 bucks! Please give me advice!!! I don't know, I just feel like they just want me to pay and pay and pay... :thumbdown |
Maybe you could cut back on the protien for awhile and have the BUN repeated in a month. Hoe everything is ok. I can't believe that a UA is $55.00-what a rip off. |
how much does your vet charge for a UA? |
I wonder if there is any way you could get your hands on the little sticks they dip in urine to check it. I know you can buy the human ones in the pharmacy over the counter but I'm sure dogs are different. Are they going to postpone his surgery because of it? |
no, theyre not postponing his surgery because of it. The vet tech just said that it was kinda high. But the normal reading is like 6 to 27, so I really dont know what he was talking about. |
oh, well in that case, I'd just keep it in the back of your mind and maybe have them check it again in a few months. Just my opinion. If he's acting normal and has no urinary symptoms, He's probably fine. |
