2 "condyle fractures" i don't know where to get help I feel so terrible, but I adopted a yorkie from a coworker and now the dog is seriously injured and I don't think i can afford to pay the medical bills. Does anyone have any idea these surgeries cost? Mookie is 4 months old and by some freak accident he fractured his elbow, front right leg. apparantly 2 different fractures, both where his growth plate is, so that's bad.... i have been calling different rescue groups to see if anyone will take him because the doctor told me this could cost me thousands of dollars, which i frankly can't spend on this dog. the veterinarian won't or doesn't set up payment plans, its very sad. anyone who has had experience with this and can tell me about rescue groups in southern nevada or how much these operations generally run can let me know, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Joanna |
Try this charity, which is designed to help w/ this very sort of thing: www.wrappedinkindness.com Keep us posted! I hope they can help. |
A list of some of the organizations that give grants to people who cannot afford vet care can be found here: www.cavycareinc.org/help_w_vet_bills.htm I have heard good things about www.imom.org and www.Angels4Animals.org. |
If you decide that you want to surrender him, then you may want to start a thread in the forum for Yorkie Rescues and New Homes Needed. Some people on here do private rescues and may be willing to take him. These people have special arrangements with their vets and may be able to get the surgery done for less. Or you can try this one in your area: http://www.unitedyorkierescue.org/faq.shtml#15 SURRENDERING I need to surrender a yorkie. What do I do? Click on the Immediate Home/Placement link on our home page to contact our Foster Coordinator. Please provide your name, location and information about the dog, including age, health and any behavioral issues if possible. Someone from your area will be in contact with you soon thereafter to make arrangements or refer you to another rescue if we do not have members in your area. |
Almost forgot. Check here too: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40748 This is a sticky with a list of Yorkie rescue organizations. |
Can you see another vet ? Many will set up payment plans or let you do something thru financing....This little dog must be in some serious pain - did you at least get them to cast the leg and pain medication ?????? |

hi reason i mentioned it as it seems to be that pups that have the leggs perthes calves disease have softer brittler bones that break easy, one of the other who had been fixed from this leggs perthes, and also was spayed and given to my sisters great aunt, well within a week after her going to her new home, she had her granddaughter let her jump ut of her arms and she broke her front ankle, it was costly too, but shes fine now,, thanks pam |
