whitsiq - I took in a tiny rescue toy poodle last year and it turned out she had giardia. She'd had diarrhea a few times when I first took her to the vet. She tested positive for giardia, and did a treatment of (I can't remember the name) but it was something we sprinkled in her food. She seemed to get better and all was fine for about a week, then she started back in with the diarrhea and also vomited a couple of times. She seemed pretty sick. We treated her the second time with the powdered packets of stuff and also liquid flagyl. She was fine after a couple of days and has been fine every since. Giardia is easily treated but can be pretty nasty if untreated. My little girl was tiny at the time so it scared me a little but she is fine now. Diana |

My 13 week old puppy has Giardia and it was diagnosed three days after I got her. First thing they gave me was panacur granules and I wouldn't recommend because I believe that is one of the reasons why my dog stopped eating... it must taste bad!!! After three days of the med I stopped giving it to her and glad I did but now I'm running another cycle of Panacur but in liquid form (I think it's better liquid).... I think my dog doesn't eat much because her diarrhea is bad and in her mind maybe eating=diarrhea? Be careful when you give the medicine so that the puppy doesn't choke... Let us know how your pup is doing!! :D |
