Chicken pox?? Do dogs get chicken pox??? Layla has little scabs on her legs and paws.. and a few on her head... she itches and bites like crazy... and there are these teeny tiny scabs that are round...a nd i know they are not caused by her scratching because they are too tiny... any thoughts? |
dogs do not get chicken pox. have you checked her for fleas? they could be flea bites if they are all over. is she scratching a lot? does she lie around in the grass? they could be bug bites. |
Is it possible that Layla got into some ants? |
well i don't think she has fleas because they are only on her paws and just two on her head.. lets say she did have fleas.. how would i know?? she may have gotten into ants.. but i'm not sure we have ants here that bite.... |
itchy baby I think it said your in Canada....Im in Michigan and we have them (biting ants)here so I am sure you have them too. Fleas would leave a small black speck throughout fur and watch her belly....you will sometimes see them scurry across belly. And no they cannot get chicken pox. I hope her itchy scratchies go away!!!!!!! |

itchy baby hmmm does she seem to have a rash first then itch it turning it into scabs? Or is it scabs right away from apparent bites?? |
Pretty sure it's not chicken pox...doubt if it's fleas...but there are alot of other creepy-crawly bugs around that will and do bite our babies, after all they are pretty close to the ground...Hope Layla feels better, maybe a little benedryl will help, if it's ok with her vet. Poor little thing, hate the itchies!!! |
Have you given her any new foods or tried any new products on her? Maybe she's allergic to something? I hope she feels better soon though!:) |
oh on poor layla! i hope she feels better soon....if i had to guess i would think it was ant bites.....definatly i do not think it is fleas! |
If it is something that appears and then goes away, and then returns - I would say a trip to the vet is in order. She may have some type of bacterial skin infection. Or some type of allergy, but I would want to find out what it is before I treated it. It does not sound like fleas or bug bites to me, but without seeing them - hard to say. I would at least call the vet... and hopefully the itchies will be healed soon, poor baby! |

i'm sure you have a flea comb at home or a really fine tooth comb for brushing her hair. If you run that thru her fur especially on the lower back and tail area you would pick up some fleas or flea dirt. flea dirt is basically their poop and you were to put it on a wet paper towel and squish the flea dirt it would come out bloody. that's the test for fleas. they may be ant bites tho. i think if she keeps getting them then a trip to the vet is in order. they'll be able to figure out what it most likely is. |

Awwww poor Layla, sounds like an allergy to something???? I hope she gets better soon! Simon sends her get well kisses :) |
I was thinking bacterial also. I'd take her to the vet personally. Rule out ringworm/scavees and so on. |
