Ringworm We have only had our little Abbie for 2 months. She has been itchy and has had dry flaky skin and a rash since we got her from the breeder. The vet just diagnosed her with ringworm  . She is so small that the doctor had to special order her medicne to treat it. It is being mailed to us. What should we do in the meantime? I have vaccumed and scrubbed our house, but I don't know how much that will help since she is not on medication yet. I really want to get her feeling better as soon as possible, and I don't want her to be reinfected by it. Any advice? |
I am new here and we are still waiting as our pup is only 1month. We were waiting on another that is 2 months and she had itchy flaky skin and I called my vet. There is shampoo to ease itchy and flakes. The breeder used that. However we decided on a differrent puppy...but not becasue of skin condition. Let me know what you do and how things turn out. Sorry to hear about your little ones situation.:aimeeyork |
We had the same problem.... Missy was infected by it, we are guessing it is from her roommate from the shop she was at... and I do believe that they did not took good care of her. Anyway, we got a anti-fungi cream that we rub on the infected area, which was on her arm.... and we also got her a shampoo. It's going away, and her hair is growing back and she doesnt itch there anymore. Me and my sister actually got the ringworm from her...... veryyyyyy contagious. We washed our blankets/sheets and sprayed the couches and such with anti-bacterial sprays. It was a stressful progress, considering we are new dog-owners. But you'll feel much better once you know he/she is all BETTER! |
Please let the breeder know about this, Im sure all her dogs have it too. it bothers me that she was sold to you with rashes on her, I am shocked a good breeder would sell a pup with any obvious issues. Is the breeder reputable? are the living conditions in the house good for the dogs? |
Abbie did not have any signs of a rash on her when we got her from the breeder. The rash showed up on her several days after we got her, but she was itching almost immediately from when we got her home. We are not sure if she contracted it at our house, or while in transit to our house, or at the breeders. It could have been from anywhere. I have already been in contact with the breeder to let her know, just in case. |
first things first: :yorkietal WELCOME TO YORKIE TALK :yorkietal Ringworm is a fungus. You can get a "jock-itch" topical ointment and use that until her meds from the vet come in. Remember that ringworm is very contagious so be sure to wash your hands carefully each time you handle her. |
