My puppy has a burnt tongue I have a 4 month old yorkie (Sassy's daughter). Two days ago we heard something fall in the garage. I went out there (of course the dogs followed me) and a bottle of hair deglogger for drains fell and busted open. Sassy wouldn't go near it (thank god) but the puppy got to a pile I didn't see and started screaming. I ran inside, put her head under cold water. The bottle said, "not to induce vomitting and to give milk/water". My boyfriend and I gave her soy milk, regular milk and bread along with ham to bind the chemical. The bottle said "burns on contact". So I really doubt she drank any. I think she burned her tongue/mouth real bad. I've been feeding her turkey/ham (deli meat) and some cheese (for calcium, very little amt). She's having trouble eating food off the ground, bowls etc. She loves water tho. So I put her kibble in water and it floats. She's eating that, thank god! But is there anything I can do for her burn? Any topical solution or anything out there to make it heal faster? I've already talked to the vet and have an appt for tomorrow morning. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. We are sooo worried about her and love her to death. Mallee and Sassy thank you too :) |
wow why did you not take her to the vet for antibiotics and make sure no further damage was done |
I was a vet tech at an emergency hospital before. I know she did not drink any because her motor skills would be not up to par. I called the vet I use and he said that it's not life threatening, just to bring her in tomorrow morning. Im trying to find out what I can give her now up until the vet visit. |
Awww, poor baby:( I'm sorry, I don't have any advice...I just hope she gets well soon! |
thank you. |
Maybe some popsicles (peidalyte is what I use sometimes). Just so it won't swell. Or have her lick an ice cube. That's about all I can think about until you go to the vet. I hope she gets better. |

Maybe Yogurt or Sour cream |
hi iam sorry about your baby, when my joey was stung on the lip last summer i used ice on it and it took the pain and swelling down, i hope everything is ok.:) its hard to have them hold still for the ice so i crushed it up and kept his water bowl filled. |

Mallee is doing GREAT! She totally did a 360 the evening before our vet appt. She was even better in the morning. She is back to normal now and we are so thankful. We thought her personality would've changed but it didn't. She's just more aware of things now...which is a good thing! She's eating normally too and she's playing w/ her mama again. Her mouth had a foul smell from that too and thats going away now too. Thank you for all of your advice, we all greatly appreciate it! :) |
I am so glad to hear she wlll be ok. The ham and turkey have a lot of salt so that may have stung her tounge. |
