Protein:Creatinine?
 

Any one ever have protein in the urine? My little one has a p:c ratio of 4:1, up from 1.9:1 about a month ago...Normal is 1:1, they start worrying at 3:1. All other urine tests and blood tests are normal, she does have skin/allergy problems. Just started home-cooking for her, following Andi Brown's Whole Pet Diet. Vet prescribed a blood pressure pill even tho he said her blood pressure was fine...it's supposed to help the bp and circulation in her kidneys...


Any experience with this type of thing?

i know that sometimes if you are feeding a high protein diet, it will increase it but you said you are homecooking so i don't know unless you are feeding too much protein in her homecooking.

Has she been diagnosed with PLE? I found an article that talks about this and says that dogs with PLE need to be put on a hypoallergenic diet because they are usually sensitive to many foods...

She doesn't have any of the other symptoms or any other levels out of whack, but I will ask my vet anyways... Thanks!

I'm trying to think ggod thoughts for now and load her up with good healthy food and supplements...They want to recheck her p: ratio again in a month, but I have strips to check for protein loss at home, so I'll probably do that once a week and see if anything is happening that way...I'm sure if her p:c drops a lot, the protein on the stick will go down too

We (unfortunately) are currently dealing the same thing. vet prescribed a bp pill- her last bp reading was 220. vet would like to see it closer to 200.

her labs last week were:
urine protein: 292.7
urine creatinine 41.4
pro/creat ratio 7.1 !!!

Anything over 2 is considered high. My baby shows no visible signs of anything wrong? she is a little slower getting up from a lying down position but is sooooo playful and energetic. She recently was diagnosed with Hypotyroidism so she is now on soloxine. Noticed that her urine is was very light colored when i took it in for testing again this past w/end.

Sadie has been treated for a slight urinary tract infection. she did 10 days worth of antibiotics. she goes this w/end for recheck u/t infectiion. we tested her urine this past w/end and STILL no change in her protein loss. it stayed the same. Today vet says to increase dose from 1/4 tablet in the morning to 1/4 tablet am and pm now. wants to recheck bp in 2 wks and urinalysis again in 4 wks. sadie is having urine checked again this w/end to see if any signs of infection are present. (vet forgot to check for this with this past sat's urine i took in) I am so worried. i have this one with this problem and another with crystals in her urine. i constantly worry and i have been wracking my brain trying to research on line. It's getting to the point where i rarely get to enjoy my two girls. i am so always worried about them it's scary. :-(

Make sure she doesn't get fat. I have an older Yorkie that lost all of his protein in his system and he blew up like a balloon. With the protein problem she could develop stones. Toby did and had to have an emergency operation to remove them. The drugs Toby had to take are as follows. Polycitrate crystals mixed in his food to prevent stones. Prednisone to make sure he doesn't blow up and he's been on it for 8 or so years now. This is the best stuff. Get body building oil called MCT. Its cheap. Use a cap full mixed in her food. Ask your vet about this option. Oh ya, also Toby was switched to Medi-Cal diet. Now he had to be switched again to Royal Canin low protein diet. Hopefully this will give you some help to ask your vet. Also how old is she? Toby first got his problem when he was around 8 I think.

my girl has high blood pressure and the vet prescribed amlodipine. but we encountered a fainting episode (or at least i am hoping that's all it was) we since then discontinued the bp pill amlodipine until she can further research something else to put her on. what pill did you vet prescribe for the high bp?

she also has protein loss in her urine- very large amounts. her ratio is 6.7. down from 7.4 but still wayyyy too high. she is on benazepril to help with that 2 x's a day. it is not helping her bp though. her bun is 65. (also extremely high)

so feeding "raw" would not be good for my Sadie if dogs with PLN should be fed a "low" protein diet?
