Bad reaction to vaccination?? Help! ZsaZsa had her annual check up today, every thing was fine, also had her microchipped. She is acting very strange. She can't be still or get comfortable. She is burrowing in the bed under the pillows, blankets etc... then runs to me to hold her. Rubbing her nose, won't let me look at it. Right now she is in my lap, spinning circles then runs behind me in the chair lays down but can't settle then she's back in my lap. I've called the vet but no call back yet. Do you think its a reaction to the shots or maybe she got bit by something outside. Should I give her Benedryl? How much? I don't know what to do......... |
Similar question! Spike (who is 6 1/2 months) had his rabies and bordatella shots today (at about noon). Right after we went to the vet, we went to the park and had a walk, and then we went home for a nap (I'm on night shift tonight!). When I left the house at 5 p.m. he was walking around, wagging his tail, but a lot less energetic than usual. The vet warned me that this is normal, especially in small breed puppies, but I'm still going home to check on him in my break. Has anyone else had a similar experience? :questione |
ZsaZsa is not lethargic, quite the opposite she is extremely hyper. I got a call back from the on call vet and he said she could have 3 to 6 ml of Benedryl. I'm going to do a search and see if I can find the proper dosage since he was so vague. |
my Bella threw up after her shots on Tuesday but acted normal otherwise. We waited at the vet for a lil while after to make sure there'd be no other reactions. My vet told me sometimes they require an antihistimine shot when they do have a reaction. That'd make sense about the Benedryl. I think there's another thread on here about how much you can give them with the liquid drops. Bella didn't have anymore issues. |
What shots did they give her? |
rabies, dist-hep-lept-pa-parvo, bordetella, and a Dex injection because she is usually sore after her shots. |
I gave her 6 mls of Benedryl, she is laying down on the bed now. This behavior started about 4 hours after her shots. |
Hannah did the same thing after her 3rd shots. I think she was in so much pain she couldn't stay still. I gave her some benadryl too and it helped. The dose of benadryl in 1mg per pound. Hannah weighs 4.2 lbs and I think her dose is almost 2cc's. |
damn, why so many shots at a time>? No wonder she figiting, benedryl should help her calm down |
Spike update! I checked on Spike, and he seems fine, but he's giving a few yelps now and then, even when I don't touch him. I'm not sure if he's just generally sore, or if he's gunning for sympathy, but he seems fine otherwise!:aimeeyork |
What a horrible night. Thank goodness she is feeling better this morning. That was the same series of shots she has always had and the same as Abbie who is only 3 1/2 lbs., next year I will have them do a titer to check her level of immunity. I never want to put her through that again. |
Glad your little one is better this morning:) Those shots can really do a number on 'em! |
i'm glad he is better, too! romeo has never had any kind of reaction after a shot - even his last one that included rabies. that is the one i was really concerned about. |
She was always sore and pretty miserable after shots but this was frightening. I guess the normal reaction is lethargy and pain but she was very hyper and itchy, she just could not settle down. Rubbing her nose, shaking her head as if her ears were bothering her, kicking her back legs when she'd try to lay down and sleep. It was a very long night and I'm just so thankful that she is back to herself this morning. I'll be calling the vet when they open to let them know her reaction to the vaccinations. Thank everone for your concern and thoughts. |
It sounds like a lot of shots in one day, I don't doubt that she had a reaction...I hope she gets better soon!! |
