Pheoebe's eyes and Rabies Vaccine Another trip to the emergency vet today, this time with Pheoebe. We went in this afternoon so Boo-Boo and Pheoebe can have their Rabies Vaccine and we finished in about 10 minutes. So we went back at the office and after 3 hours Pheoebe's eyes swallowed really bad and she was scratching her nose really bad. So we went back to the vet and he gave her a steriods injection, some eye drops and some medicines. The vet said that this injection might interfere with her blood results as we want to take them with us in holliday. Is this right? |
Also when I have told my vet about the fact that some yorkies are allergic to this vaccine he said that I will have to be very unlucky for it to happen. Is my vet ok or just way too young? |
Is there anyone out there to help with this questions if I don't ask too much. Pretty please. |
I dont know about your vet but reactons to rabie shots are common. I have never heard of a reaction affecting the eyes though |

My vet told me to watch for facial swelling after Sadie's rabies shot, but he said that it wasn't a common reaction. Sounds like you got your baby help right away and avoided a more serious reaction! |

It sounds like she was having an anaphylactic reaction which starts with the facial swelling and then can lead to swelling of the tongue and throat. Humans can have this same type of reaction to certain allergens like bee stings. It's a severe, whole body allergic reaction and is considered a life-threatening emergency. It's wonderful that you rushed her back to the vet's office - you probably saved her life!! |
