We just picked up our baby this morning from his surgery yesterday. He had Luxating Patella.. but worse! He was born without a groove for his kneecap to sit in! So they had to make one for his kneecap.. He has three pins holding everything inplace!! He's doing really good.. hes already eating and everything!! He's goess back in a week to get his stitches out and then he goes back in 6 weeks to get the pins tookin out!!!! Its going to take 8 weeks for his leg to fully heal!!! Thank you all so much for all the information you've givin us and all the prayers!!!!! __________________ |

won't eat Brea hasn't eaten since she came home from the vet. I gave her a bit of water from a syringe last night but she doesn't drink on her own. I've tried baby food meat, regular dog food, canned food, yougurt, cottage cheese, treats, and chicken. Oh, I tried Nurical too - I stuck some on her lip so her would lick it off. I suppose I better call the vet and see what they suggest. Darn it. :thumbdown |

The vet didn't have any suggestions for getting her to eat than I already had. If she doen't start pretty soon, I'm going to be worried. :( Even if she would drink water - that would be a start! Oh these babies... |

She won't eat ANYTHING! If she doesn't start soon now, I'm going to blend up some food and give it to her with a syringe. She just can't go this long without eating. The vet thinks that maybe the pain patch is causing her not eat. Another horrible thing is that she won't even come to me! She walks away from me when I come near. That is SO not like her. I thought I could cuddle her to help her feel better but she wants nothing to do with me. :( |

Try using the recipe we used when our picky little eater came home from her spay surgery. It's a mixture of baby cereal and strained baby meat. We got it from one of the threads on here, from someone's breeder. You can put it in the syringe and dispense it into the corner of her mouth. Our puppy started to like it so much she licks it voluntarily off the syringe. 1/2 cup half-and-half (or goat's milk which is easier to digest) 1/2 cup instant baby rice cereal 1 whole jar of strained baby meat (like Gerber's), anything but turkey 1 tsp. Karo syrup (or pancake syrup if no Karo is available) Just warm up the half-and-half, mix in the cereal until it thickens, stir in the jar of meat and karo syrup. If it is too thick, you can thin it out with a little water. We usually keep it in the fridge and warm up small portions in the microwave to lukewarm. Good luck. Hopefully this will get her past the night and she'll be fine tomorrow. |

Is she even turning down chicken ??  I would try that or maybe a little yogurt in a syringe...it really could be the medication...with Brea's size I can see why you're worried - good luck !! What about nutrical ?? is that ok to give her ? |

THANK YOU!! I ran out to the store and got what I needed and whipped up a batch of this. I had to put it on her lips at first and she licked her lips and then she started licking it off my finger. YEA!!! Mind you, she wasn't happy about it, but I got some food in her! I'm so relieved. Thanks for sharing this recipe - I remember seeing it before but had forgotten about it.  :) |

She is probably still feeling the after-effects of the surgery and drugs. With all the competent nursing she is getting she will be up and about in no time flat. |

Yaaay! So happy you got something into her! |

:D She even POOPED!!!! It was the skinniest poop I've ever seen!!!! Progress! I'm sure you really wanted to know that!!! :yelrotflm |
