I need help, my babies are sick... Hannah and Bentley are vomiting. Hannah vomited once about 2 hours ago and she has been fine since then. Bentley has been vomiting for 2 hours -about 4 times. We went to to the farm and they played outside. I noticed that they were eating something, when I went over there they appeared to be eating dirt. On the way home Hannah vomited and it looked like dirt. I thought it was wierd because she doesn't get car sick anymore. Then when we got home Bentley started vomiting and at first it looked like dirt then it has become clear with grass and dead leaves in it. Since I have been typing this he has vomited 3 more times, mostly just clear and a little foamy. Do I give hime pepto-bismol? Let him keep vomiting for awhile to get anything out of his stomach that shouldn't be there? I tried the vet with no answer and no page answered, and there is no emergency vet here. He seems to be ok in between vomits, kinda playful. How much pepto-bismol do I give? |
It sounds like they just have upset tummies.. You give one teaspoon Pepto every 6 hrs. Hope they are feeling better soon |
The fact that you saw them eating "something" would be more than enough to make me find a Vet tonight. You never know what could have been on the ground and the fact that they're vomiting just makes me think it wasn't anything good! |

Thanks everyone...he has vomited about 10 more times clear foamy...luckily I finally got in touch with the vet and she told me I could give pepto-bismol but phenergan is better. She asked if I had any phenergan and I told her I could get some (advantages of working in the ER 3 min away..he he)so she told me to give 6.25mg of suppository and no food or drink for 12 hours. So I just gave the suppository and I will let you know how it goes, thanks everyone. I get so worried about my babies when they are sick. I believe that they ate something like dirt that they could not digest and they vomited it up, well Hannah is used to eating junk so she bounced back but Bentley is not used to it and so after he vomited his little stomach was still irritated and he can't stop vomiting. He is just so weak and pitiful looking..:( :( :( |

6.25 mg of Phenergan does sound like a lot. Keep a close eye on them and call the vet if you think they may have taken too much. My vet has always told me that if their vomit is foamy and clear or white, then it is sinus drainage which upsets their stomachs. Get them into the vet's office as soon as you can. They may need to take some allergy medicine or they will continue to have sinus drainage and vomit. My boys take Temaril which works well for them. It sounds like they have vomited alot. Keep an eye out for dehydration. If you feel they are becoming dehydrated try some pedialyte. |
Hope your babies are feeling better! Good luck! |

I thought that 6.25mg was a big dose too, but she said it would be fine. I also know someone else with a maltese and she said that 6.25mg was a normal dose for them. I know that there has recently been a warning for children under 2 years old because it caused respiratory depression. That worried me too about giving it to Bentley, but I will watch him real close. Thanks for the warning...I was a little scared too, I actually gave a little less than 6.25mg...;) |

Thanks, I did think about the pedialyte too. She told me to give no food or water for 12 hours to let his stomach rest...that sounded like a long time to me, but he will probably sleep most of that time anyway, but if he wakes up in several hours and wants something to drink I will probably give him some pedialyte. I think that the foamy was just what was left in his stomach after vomiting the dirt or whatever it was that he ate. He hasn't vomited since I gave him the suppository. He is sleeping now. |
Bentley just got up and ran over to one of his toys and playing with it. He is walking around and wagging his tail. I am surprised he can even walk after that dose of phenergan...lol...yippppeee his is doing better...:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: |
Glad to hear he's doing better!:) |
