Could she be in heat? I know someone can help here. Did you call your vet? |
she has been spayed, so i doubt it is that. can dogs still be in heat if they get spayed???? thanks for the idea though amber...i am soo worried i hope someone has some info soon. i put a call into my vet but she was in the middle of an apt and they said she would call me back. |
What does her stool look like? Diarrhea? Firm? Mucus (slimy coating)? Your vet will probably ask you to come in for evaluation. When this happened to Penny the first time, I freaked out. She was diagnosed with colitis which is inflammation of the colon lining. Hers is recurring. If this is what is going on with your baby, the vet may send you home with some soft prescription food to give her for a few days. Just my experience... this could be what your baby is experiencing or something completely different. Keep us posted on what happens! |
Thank you...her poop is firm, definatly not diarrhea, i'm not sure if it was slimy. when pennys butt did it was there a lot of blood??? and did it continue to bleed that day when she pooped, or was it all the time?? thanks for the help, i am just trying to be a little detective...lol |
Maybe her anal glands needed emptying and are now infected...??? I would take her last stool in with you when you go to the Vets office. |

It didn't continue all the time, just when she used the restroom and maybe for a bit after. Definitely not a continual bleeding, though |
Sounds like Colitis to me as well. Maya has it and every now and then she has an episode where she willl have bloddy stools and when I wipe her butt there will be some blood. The vet should be able to determine for sure and give you medicine. Good luck |

ok...sounds like me and miss bella need to be making a trip to the vet. i will tell him what happened and to check for colitis. she did just have her anal glands expressed...so i dont think it is that. thanks again everyone!!!!!!! |
I hope Bella is alright. |
well we just got back from the vet....i brought in a sample of her poop for him. he said it wasnt her anal glands, that they were fine. and he said her stool looked completly normal (it was a different stool than the one she bled from) he gave me bland food to give her for 2-3 days to make sure everything is ok, and he also gave me a dewormer. is it right to give a dewormer when there are no worms found?? he said that even though the fecal was negative she still could have worms???? i have never heard of giving medicine for worms if no worms were found??? but he didnt give me any medicine for colitis, but said she could have a mild case. i am so confused!! other than my confusion, bella seems to be doing fine, there was no blood in her second poop..yay!! |

This happened to Monday 4 years ago, and she had subsequent bouts of anything with "itis" at the end ... fixed the problem by using low residue prescription dog food (that has not been recalled) .... now Friday had been throwing up recently. So a week ago, the vet put her on the same food (DRY)... and BING-O! the problem is gone. These babies have sensitive tummies. Call your vet! Good luck! My thoughts are with you. My vet gave Monday CARAFATE for the tummy, and also told me to give 1/4 Pepcid, very very small. |
I hope Bella is okay . . .:( |
