Diarrhea...then no poop at all for days! I am very worried about our 2-year-old yorkie Buddy. He had terrible diarrhea on Sunday & Monday, so we got 2 medicines from the vet on Tuesday. The vet prescribed an antibiotic & another medicine (Centrine) for the symptoms. The problem now is that Buddy hasn't pooped since we gave him the meds! I am getting very worried. I discontinued the Centrine, as per the vet's instructions, but they said we should bring him in if he doesn't poop by Friday afternoon. Has anybody had a problem with Centrine or Metronidazole (that's the antibiotic)? |
You posted this a couple days ago, has he gone yet? If not, how long has it been now? |
Yes, Buddy just pooped this morning & we are so glad! I was about to give him a little canned pumpkin & take him to the vet tomorrow. I think he either ate something he shouldn't have or played too hard a week ago today at our Yorkie Playdate. I guess his little system got messed up. I am so glad he finally pooped. Whew! Thanks for asking! Cindy & Buddy |
Good, I'm glad.... It's possible that he just had nothing left in there to come out.... I don't think it's totally uncommon for them not to poop for a day or two after starting the metronidazole when they had bad diarrhea like that.... |
I'm sure you're right---I was so worried because he has always pooped like clockwork for 2 years...thanks for asking! By the way, have you ever heard of giving them canned pumpkin or mineral oil to help with constipation? Thanks |
Yes... but be careful with it! I gave my dogs pumpking after their stool seemed a little too firm.... The result: Diarrhea so bad for a couple days that I ended up putting them on metronidazole!! (And it took them two and half days to poop again) I'd consult a vet before giving them anything to loosen stools when they JUST had horrible diarrhea. |
will do---thanks! |
