Frantic? Itch? Okay, Duke has been acting like something has been bothing him around his behind yesterday and then this morning. He has been running around frantic because it's like he can't seem to itch it. He's not doing the butt scoot though. I don't know if it's his behind, his legs... he just seems to be in misery. I plan on taking him to the vet. tomorrow; I would today but my day is full and I can't get out of it... and I'm a little overprotective and don't trust anyone else to take him to the vet. I'm thinking it may be worms? I just took him out and inspected his poo, but nothing seemed abnormal. He had a bit of diarrhea yesterday, but I attributed it to the food changes he has been going through as they try to work the whole recall situation out. I bought him the Chicken Soup brand and have tried to give it for a week with him not taking one bite! But, anyway, I was just hoping anyone would know maybe what he has? He's has his Frontline and I gave him a CapStar yesterday, so I have doubts about fleas. Anal glands need expressing? Worms? Any kind of relief method I could use until I get him to the vet. on Wednesday? Also, if I do think it is worms, can I treat him at home? Like, maybe run by Wal*Mart or PetMart if open and get something for him so he can have it tonight? Thanks so much guys! |
every once in awhile my little boy will do that. it is like a ghost....like he is trying to run away from his bottom. i finally looked and he had a dingleberry (poo ) stuck in his hair. by the way, have you given him flea medicine lately? my dogs run around scared after i give them the flea medicine. |
What you said about a ghost being after him is exactly how he is acting. He loves lay on the back of the couch and last night he fell off when he jumped up suddenly. Thankfully, he's fine. I guess he's tougher than I think. I did just give him his flea medicine the night before the day he started acting funny, if that makes any sense. But, it's been about 36, 48 hours so... Maybe it's that? Hmm. I gave him a mL of children's Benadryl and he's sleeping a bit now. He just got his summer cut a few weeks ago, so he doesn't have to get his bottom wiped. :) It does remind me of what he does when he gets something caught back there though, he just doesn't. |
Just an update... for the sake of maybe knowing if your dog acted like I described Duke. He had a fungal ear infection that I've been taking him to the vet. for twice now. Well, the last time I went he said it was cleared up and fine, but apparently it's back for the third time. He got the ointment in his ears as usual, then a few shots this time that he hadn't gotten before... so, hopefully that will do it. It's supposedly contagious, but I don't know how he keeps getting it. I've washed everything in colorsafe bleach and cleaned the house! Anyway, him putting his head toward his butt making me think he was trying to scratch his bottom was him actually trying to get his head to his back leg for it to scratch his ears. The hyperactivity he said was probably a diversional activity to take the mind off the ears. Duke has had surgery, femoral osteotomy, as a pup for his hips (he's 5 now) and that is why he was having trouble scratching his little ears. He probably thought I was crazy when I kept trying to scratch his bottom for him. :) |
