build up on ears, nose, and ..... My male yorkie has a build up on the top of him snout, the edhe of his ears, and covering his scrotum sack. The skin on his ears and scrotum is black. This dosnt seem right to me. Any suggestions. |
A build up of what? |
I am not sure.... The skin is black. It is not bothering him, it just dosnt seem right. I beleive it is a waxey build up. It went around th outer part of his ears, and coveres his scrotum sack. Is it normal for the scrotum sack to be black? |
No, it's not normal for the skin in those areas to be black. Could it be a buld up of dirt or soap from a bath or a combination of the two? How long has it been there and have you checked with your vet or groomer? |
No, its definatly not a build up that is making the skin lack on thr scrotum. i notices this awhile ago, but did not knwo fi it was normal. A few days ago, we noticed a hardened build up. Its almost like a wax. pulling it off dosnt seem to bother him much, and the skin dosn't seem to be irritaded under it. But is dosn't seem right either. |
I would suggest you take him to the vet and see what's going on. When was the last time he had a good bath? When you remove the build up from his scrotum, what color is the skin underneath? |
He has been getting a bath about every 2 weeks. I have a female also and she dosn't have any of these issues. He has always had oozey eyes, but I dont think those correlate. I sure am glad to find this sight an at least get the oppertunity to chat with some one. i have been searching google for some clues and had no luck. |
Oozey eyes can be a sign of food allergies and so can skin problems. What are you feeding them? Also, once a part of the build up is removed what color is the skin underneath? Is it healthy and pink or is it black? |
Its is black. The hair around the edge of the ears hase come off with this build up also. I don't have much money, and they vet will charnge me a fortune, so I was hoping I could find some simluar problems and do a home remedy. He is definatley the Little Man of the house, and an awesome little guy. Should all of the skin be white/pink? All of the skin on his scrotom is black. |
It dosnt seem to both him. I was able to remove most of the buidl up. ( Carefully ) |

Sounds like yorkie crud or known as black ear.....Lotrimin 2% applied with a q-tip. You must keep him bathed and well dried...Yorkies in cold or humid climates are prone to it. Wow you live in AZ....amazing, but it does sound like black ear. |
Would this effet the a build up on the snout and scrotum sack also? |

I think I have some in my medicine cabinet. I need to apply it to all areas, right? Nose, ears, and scrotum. |

Bathe him first and dry him real good, a bath in a medicated shampoo....Tegrin T-Gel would be the best and the fastest to obtain....careful with his eyes.....make sure his bedding is washed daily....it isn't contagious, but to be on the safe side...make sure any brushes, combs you use on him are sanitized before using them on any other dog. |
Yep thats leather ear. I went thru it with Brandy. We just had it on the ear tips but I've heard it can show up on the muzzle and tail so I would imagine scrotum sack as well. I cleaned the areas with alchohol on cotton balls and rubbed in the 2% lotrimin cream about twice a day and it cleared up in a couple weeks and all the hair grew back. Dandruff shampoo is a good antifungal. If I were you I would bathe him in dandruff shampoo and apply the lotrimin cream (I got mine at the drugstore for a couple bucks). |
Thank's Thank's I Have The Same Problem W/ My Dog ,i'm Gonna Try To See If This Help ,how Long You Think That It Takes To See If This Is Helping ..... |

Keeping the area clean and medicated & especially dry is what is required for best results.. |
this is new to me. i have never heard of this and i am glad i have. my muffie had some black stuff on her belly that looked odd. you could pick it off and that is what i did. it wasn't like a scab. eventully, it stopped. hummmm i wonder if this is what it was????? |

Probably not. It's not that easy to get rid of....It's never been identified as a fungus or an infection...... It does affect silk coats......dogs in humid climates or exposed to to extreme cold....keeping your dogs warm and dry is a good preventative, but even with that you never know. |
I heard that listerene (spelling?) helps too. Never tried it only the lotramin. |
