the abominable cough... I posted a thread earlier "getting more nervous" relating to Loki's cough... He's now had it almost a month and we went to the vet today... It's NOT kennel cough.... :( which i was actually kinda hoping for, don't get me wrong, i would MUCH RATHER kennel cough than my little baby having collapsing trachea. ::sigh:: He coughs everyday, after naps, playing too hard... It's real raspy and sounds HORRIBLE! and btw, (i know mid subject).. i did go to a new vet dr. LOVE HIM! was very thorough... Loki is going on a strong cough supressant for a week and if that's not successful, xrays of his chest.. I know it's not very common for puppy's to have collapsing trachea... but you know when you get that gut feeling that something's just not right? well i know you said it isn't kennel cough.. but hear me out... layla had kennel cough.. we took the meds.. it didn't get better... so i tried a vaporizer at night.. and after about 6 weeks of coughing.. its gone! have you tried that yet? |
I have had yorkies with collapsed trachea and kennel cough and the CT cough is much drier. The kennel cough is more raspy. My 2 has kennel cough for 3 months. If it were me I would have the Xray now to make sure it's not pneumonoia. Good luck. |
Kennel cough is a cold and yes, the vaporizer will certainly help out but it just has to run it's course and that can take several weeks. Medication will not cure it. Don't take your baby around any other dogs or dog stores as it could be Kennel cough. Some Vets. just can't diagnose it. Also, don't lead the puppy buy a collar at anytime. Small dogs have very delicate trecheas and damage easily. |
thought about the vaporizer... i have been using my bathroom as a vaporizor occasionally by using hot shower water..lol I have been using a harness when i walk him outside.. a lot of times i dont even use that because he stays right with me for the most part and comes when i call him (if he's not intently sniffin to poop). I heard about the collar deal with the tracheas before so that's why he doesnt lead on a collar.... today they gave him the nasal spray too for the kennel cough/bordetella... will DEF be doing xrays in a week if cough supressant hasn't helped.. oh also just curious an off topic.. loki is 12 weeks, his coat is very "wavy" and doesnt really have a defined part.. my mom's yorkie is 8 weeks and his fur is very silky and straight... is it normal for my york's coat to still be so wavy at 12 wks?? (porker weighed in at almost 4lbs today!! hehe) |
4 pounds at 12 weeks WOW!! He's going to be quite the big boy. More to hug. ;) Some have the thick wavy hair and some the straight silky. Use and good conditioner and while he's still wet, part the hair and keep combing it straight down while it's drying. I groom mine outside because it drys faster. They dry while I do some trimming, and I keep brushing while they dry. Don't use a hair dryer on him. It will only make the hair that much more hard to manage. |
