Sending condolences I lost my 1st yorkie at the age of 11. He too was fine, then something went terribly wrong. It sounds alot like what you went thru with your precious little one, Mac. I only wish I knew then, what I know now. I would have definately taken him for 2nd, 3rd or even 4th opinions. An autopsy was a great idea, I wish I had thought of it. I still don't know what happened to Spencer, may he rest in peace, but unfortunately his vet said he was just old...I find it hard to believe, even though he was 11, that it was just old age...fine one day running, playing just like always, then, so sick, his little body couldn't take any more, he got so weak. We put him in bed with us, the night before he died, he was very restless, we had finally come to the conclusion, made our decision, we would have to have him put to sleep... but the little trooper that he was made it easier for us, he went to sleep, there in bed between my husband and I, and never woke up. The pain of losing him was bad enough, but not knowing why made it 100 times worse. I feel for you, and pray for your little one. I am so very sorry, I have no answer, I hope you find yours. May God Bless You. Kathy:crying: :crying: :crying: |
I am so sorry you lost your little Mac, Bless his Heart. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you questions will be answered. Spread your little wings and fly, Mac. (((HUGS))) :( |
God bless you and Mac. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have been more than 1,000 miles away from my own 9-year-old this week and so your story struck me especially hard. I think most YTers will attest that things can and do go wrong with these little guys every day, irrespective of age and regardless of past medical history, and it can go south very, very fast. I know that doesn't make your loss any less, but knowing that it DOES happen may help ease the second-guessing you are no doubt doing. Thoughts and prayers are with you. |
i am sooooo sorry you lost your baby!!!! sending lots of hugs and prayers.... |
I'm so sorry for your loss. There aren't enough words to express the pain we feel when our little ones leave us but coming to a place where others understand the love we feel for our babies helps. So post anytime and know that there is someone reading it feeling or has felt the same way. |
I am terribly sorry.......I have no experience with this :( |

I am so sorry for your loss! We also lost our first, precious little yorkie, Tashee at the age of 10 yrs. She also had a collapsed trachea, but seemed fine and just got very sick one night and before we even had a chance to take her to the vet she passed away. That was over 4 yrs. ago and we still miss her very much. I hope you will consider another yorkie at some point, not to replace your little Mac, but to help fill the void of his loss. Again, my condolences on the death of your little guy. |

Im so sorry for your loss. |
im so sorry for your loss:( did they check the heart? my sasha was fine then one day she was really weak so i took her to the vets and they said her heart was fine but thought it might be her lungs but when they did a xray they could see her heart was enlarged and that was the problem, even with meds she died as she just didnt take to them. i wonder sometimes if an owner of a yorkie is told its a collapsed trachea that is causeing the coughing was its a coomen thing for them to have when really they have a heart problem, i noticed someone else on here said there dog was very restless, well thats just how sasha was as if she laid down she had trouble breathing due to fluid in her lungs. |
Loss of Mac My heart goes out to you, I can\'t begin to imagine your pain. I know it is not much but my thoughts and prayers are with you. Jay :rbyorkie: |
So sorry for your loss. I hope time will ease your pain and when you look at pictures and think of the time you shared with Mac you will know that he loved you as much as you loved him. |
I am so sorry. His pancreas and retaining fluid is the reason my Sophie died in January. Her levels just went side-ways and with her previous bouts of colitis, she just couldn\'t recover. So sorry to hear about your beloved pup. |
Im sorry for your loss xx |
How very sad! I am not sure if you fed him avocado regularly but it is toxic to dogs. Please don\'t feed it to another pet. i found this out reading an article at the vets office about toxic things for pets. I was surprised that it was on the list. I let mine lick out the avocado shell once. Never again after reading that! |
I know this is an old post, but it reminds me of loosing my 5 mo. old pup. She had a colapsing trachea, and I didn\'t really know what it was, or understand its significance. The pup seemed fine, really mellow, but I thought that was just how she was. I had gone with my husband out of town for my brothers wedding, the pup was lying with me in bed and I could feel her heart beating. I look back now and releize it was probley working hard to get her air. The next day, we were in the church parking lot, walked the dogs around, I picked her up and her tounge was turning blue. By the time we got to the Vet. she had passed away. This disease can hit fast, and not always have an explaination. The Vet told us she had a heart attack, but as I look back, and have learned so much on this site, I beleive she did have a heart attack, but, I think it was secondary to her colapsed trachea. I still miss her terribley and feel resonsible for her death, there\'s no bringing her back, but if it ever happens again I\'ll know what to watch for. |
did he have blood in his stools, was he vomiting something black and looked like dried blood? If so it sounds like pancreaitis, my maggie got this. The kids were eating turkey 3 years ago, one of them dropped some on the floor she ate this and got very sick. also I want you all to know that pedigree little bites, use to be light in color and dry, then they redid there dog food for little bites and it is very greasy has more fat in it. My maggie was eating the original just fine then they changed it, after that she started getting sick with pancreaitis. She would vomit it up. Then when the grandkids dropped there turkey on the floor she would run over and scarf it up. Terrible time of keeping her from going under the table. She kept getting sicker, and it looked like she was vomiting up blood and bloody direaha. I took her to the vet, he re-hydrated her and then he let her go without eating for 24 hours, then introduced her to lean roast beef, etc. And I brought her home and started feeding maggie the science diet food. She came out of it. But two years later she got sick eating scraps on the floor without my permission. She got sick again the doctor again got her out of it. So when they start throwing up take the food away from them all together give them nothing except water for 24 hours. They get very dehydrated when they have direaha and vomit. Anyone that experiences this take them to the doctor. I also gave maggie boiled hamberger and rice mixed after she came home untill she would eat again. She liked that. I am so sorry for your loss |
