Plastic stuck in my puppy's Belly
 

Well, I've been dealing with my puppy Cody's Diarrhea problems since I got him on March 3rd. They day I brought him home he pooped out some green plastic. The breeder said some of her dogs chewed up a chew toy then he got a piece of it. He has had diarrhea ever since. The vets have had him on medicine for coccidia, then for bacteria. Everytime he was on the medicine, he was fine then his diarhea would come back. I have had him on prescription I/d food. (This is just a general overview of what was going on.)
The vet said there is almost no chance that he has any of the plastic still stuck in him. The vet thought that he had some sort of parasite or cocidia that just wouldn't leave.


Well today, Cody pooped out a piece of green plastic about the size of 3 quarters put together. The plastic was exactly like the kind he pooped out on March 3rd. I believe it has been lodged in him all along. I know that it is not anything that he has eaten at my house becuase he doesn't have any green toys and there is nothing else green that he could have eaten.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

My breader has helped with a little bit of the bills since I have a 1 year warranty on the dog but she is very difficult to get her to help out. She had me tell her that this was the final bill last time I got her to give me money, even though he has still had problems. My question is, do you think I should insist that she help pay for more bills regarding this issue? I may have to get an ex-ray to make sure it is all out. The vet wants to wait a few days to see if he starts pooping normal.

Absolutely get more $ from her! You pup is sick because of what he
ate while in her care. No way can she say she is not paying anymore.
Plus there is a 1yr warranty for his health. IMO she is responsible for
his being sick. Thank heavens he is passing this green plastic.
He could have died from it being lodged in his intestines.
I do hope he is all better now but yes, get more money from her.
She should be paying the whole damn bill!

Here's what I had written...

I think you should definitely get her to pay for ALL the bills. She already admitted that they chewed the plastic at her house, and she didn't tell you this until AFTER you had a problem. That was her responsibility to watch them. If she doesn't pay, take her to small claims for it. I think the judge would side with you on that one.

Let's hope his little bottom gets back to normal now. Poor guy, I hope all of it has finally passed on through!


Oh...and I just wanted to add. I hope you kept the plastic pieces. (even though it is gross). It would be good evidence if you needed to sue her.

I've kept the green piece that came out of him today but not the very first one. But I told her about the issue when I brought Cody home from her house that day. Thank God, I work at a huge law firm in Atlanta so I have about 300 attorney's I can ask to write her a nice letter to help pay my bills!

I think if you just mention the fact of where you work and what
legal action awaits her she will then pay all the expenses you
incurred with your pup to avoid being sued!

I got him from a breeder in North Georgia.

I hope Cody has passed the last of whatever it was he had eaten. Hopefully, he will start to feel better and his little tummy will heal. As for the breeder - I agree - she should pay the entire bill. If I were her and I knew you worked for a large legal firm, I'd hand over the money faster than you could say "Law Suit"!

I would get all you can for the vet bills. It was her fault your poor baby ate the green toy. Hope Cody has it all out of his system with no side effects.

She should pay. He ate the plastic at her house, and seeing as you had no idea what was wrong with him, and you have a one year warranty, she should pay.

Well, I talked with the breeder last night. She feels bad and says she will pay. Hopefully, his poop will go back to normal and I won't even have to take him to exrays. He seems to be acting fine, eating, drinking, and non-stop energy like a normal puppy, but with diarhea. So we'll see!

i'd still get an x-ray done to make sure nothing else is stuck in him. There was a dog in hospital on friday that had a blockage for month...we had to put him to sleep because his digestive tract was basically dead from having the blood supply weakened to certain areas.

the diarrhea can be related to the blockage or it can be related to intestinal parasites. either way i would want to make sure

just because he seems normal doesn't mean he is. that is one of the signs of a dog with a blockage. the dog seems perfectly normal in every way except for the vomiting and diarrhea. i don't think you mentioned that yours was vomiting but you can never be too careful with these guys.

No it was not a greenie. His poop has started to get a little back to normal. I think I am going to go ahead and get an xray just to be on the safe side. I didn't know that acting totally normal is a side effect to blockage. I hope he is alright :-( It makes me so sad he has had to go through this.
